Shepard shines at LACR MX By Greg Rob ertson PALMDALE, CA,SEI'T,26 Clint Shepard laced som e tough competition but came out on lop to claim the overall win in the 125cc Novice cla ss at Ca liforn ia Racin g Club's Sunday m otoc ros s a t Los An geles County Raceway. Tru T ech l An swer Pr oduct s /Larry Lilley Motorcycles-backed Shepard had th e q u ickes t reaction time and led Mike Collier and Bob Arens through the first tum in moto one. ' Collier wasted n o time in finding a wa y arou nd Shepard . C ollie r t ri ed to break away, but Shepa rd wasn ' t goi ng for it and closed to the back fe nd e r 0 1 Collier with tw o laps down . Shepard took a cha nce and held his thro ttle w ide open to ra il around Mitchell in the third tum lo r the lead . Mitchell wasn ' t happy and qu ickly started hou nding Shepard, look ing for a spot to rep ass . Mitchell was pulli ng next to She p a rd down the straights only to ge t outbra ked in the comers. Perse vera nce paid off for Mitch ell, as he fina lly got a rou nd Shepa rd on la p three. Shepa rd ha d his h a nd s lull with Collier, allowi ng Michell to p ull out a five-second lea d . Shepard got ti red 01 playing with Collier and pulled awa y while slowly starting to reel Michell in. Once close eno ugh, Shepard put a block pass on Mitchell lor the lead. Mit chell retaliated in the following tum, diving undernea th Shepard to exit the tum sid e by side. The two riders sa iled off the ne xt jump in un ison with Shepard having the better line in the next tu m to hold Mitchell 011 Wit h the w hite flag . out , Shepard turned around to see Mi tchell's front fender in his face as the two riders ba ttled all the way to the checkered flag. Shepard held Mitchell at bay for the win. Collie r came across in third for third overa ll.
