SEPT. 12 For the third year in a row , High Poin t Racew ay opened its doors to the top Vets in the eas tern U.S. for the Dirt Bike /Fo x/Wiseco /Boyesenspo nsore d Senior /V et Na tional. and Tom Carson and Mike Jon es took advan tag e of the competition by posting overall wins in 30+ A and 25+ A classes , respec tively. Motocross greats sum as Ga ry Sem ics and Eyv ind Boyesen once aga in took advan tage of perfect weather and track co nd itions to show meir stuff. Th e wee kend of racing pr ovid ed a Hperfect w arm·up" for th e Fall Classic Se ries ' ~ u n d whi ch will be hel d a t H igh Po int o n .Jctober 9-10. The 30+ A class looked to be a gr een sweep w ith Mike Postlewaite jum p ing out.to a big lead aboa rd his Kawasaki. But as time passed , circu it pros Tom Carson and David Han d reeled him in and showed him how mu ch training he should h ave done be fore th e ra ce. Training wou ldn' t have helpt.'ry in the Pro Modified Mini class during the 10th Anual running of th e Langt o wn Backyard Supercross Championships. The event drew the likes of fanner Supe rcross Champion Johnn y O' Mara. " 1 wa s he re la st y ear as a specta tor and thought it was a great track," O'M ara said . " I told them I might race next year, and so here I am ." For 1993, the event was extremely organized : from radi o di sp atched (tracks ide) security to an awesome nre works di splay. They ev en had Althea Henderson perform the Nationa l Anthem. The first 'moto can only be described as the "0 " show, as Johnny O'Mara pulled the holeshot and preceded to whip his Sp ike Racing / Enzobacked KXR80 over all the track' s obsta cles for the even tua l runaway victory. Last year's winner , Res ults "My b ike wasn 't jetted for the hot weath er," said Pars ons . "When my bi ke sta rted ge tti ng h ot , it ju st bogg ed o ff jumps a n d thro ugh bumps." Despite the problems, Pa rso ns wo uld ho ld on to second place. Back in the pa ck, Met zger ha d wo rked his way to fou rth and was cha llen gin g Dav is. Metzg er wen t for the ins ide to make the pa ss, but ended up clipping the rear wh ee l of Davis and goi ng do wn hard . Metzger remounted in th e fou rth spo t, b u t the dazed rid er wa s pa ssed by Jim my Lavo rci. When the chec kered flag finally flew it was Schnell with the w in as Parsons, Davis an d l av orci fo llowed. At the start of the second moto it looked like ano the r Parsons /Schnell ba ttle. Unlike mo to one, Schn ell led the chase as Parsons followed close behind. Davis was runnin g in the third spot until the wi ld man, Metzger , charged from fifth to take third on the first lap . Schnell and Parsons broke free ear ly in the race to hammer a t each other's backs. At ab out the halfwa y po int , Sch nell had pulled a little distance on Parso ns. By th is time Metzger had closed the gap on the lead ers and he sta rt ed to put so me pressu re on Parsons. The lop three rid ers quickly bunched up and heated up the race for the lea d . Metz ger went for secon d as Parsons went for the lead . Parsons' hopes fo r th e ov erall w ent u p in s mo ke wh en h e stu ffed a berm and went down. Met zger took over seco nd as a d isappoint ed Pa rson s pic ked himself off the ground to hold on to third . That was all she wrote as the riders held their po sitions until end of the mote.
