Kawasaki to a victory in the first moto was no
easy task for Fros t, who usually domina tes this
class. A crash early in the first lap put Frost at
the end of the pack. Afte r remounting, Fros t
quickly returned to the hunt for first, picking off
riders until he regained the lead in the last lap.
In the seco nd mot o Chri s Findley grabbed
the holeshot while Frost came thro ugh tum one
in thi rd place. Within the first lap , ho wever ,
Fros t quickly ran down the two front -ru nners
and thro ttled his Kawasaki into the lead. Frost
opened a big lead early in the race, leaving the
rest o f th e field to battle it ou t fo r second.
Findl ey finished second.

Nicky and Roger Hayden conti nued their winning ways by taking six class wins at Rockport's
Spencer County Fairgrounds.
The senior member of the Ha yden racing
family, 16-ye ar-old Tommy, wa s relegated to
specta tor toda y due to a recent injury. That left
14-year-o ld b ro the r Nicky to pilot the Hart

Nicky Hayden tenaciously took on the formidable Faulkner b rot hers, Jo h n and Ja mes
Dean, race after race to lead when it counted, at
the finish. Nicky won the 250cc and B-Open features.

Faulkner plow ed in deeper and faster, using the
enti re tu rn w id th s, bu t N ic ky H ayden ' s
smoothe r ins id e li ne enabled him to re pass
Faulkner past the apexes. James Dean Faulkner
was nea rby in th e early going but fell bac k.
Nicky was able to tuck in, feet up, far back in the
fmal tum and surge ahead on the final straight
for the wins in both classes.
Roger Hayden walloped the competition in
the SOcc class. In the 125-2
00cc class Roger was
ov e rtaken six times by a d etermined Ja son
Goodwin before he fought back on the fInal lap
.to win by two bike lengths.

Novice moto with Hall taking the hard- fought
seco nd moto victory to secure the overall wi n
unde r the ligh ts at Ca lifo rn ia Racin g Cl ub 's
Friday night motocross at Los Ang eles County
Raceway.
Hall got the jump when the fIrs t mot o got
underway but went down before the end of the
first lap. Reed inherited the lead ahead of Dann y
Bush ey and Bob Bottcher. Hall recovered quick ly and was pressuring Bushey for the runner-up
position by the third lap . It took Hall a lap to
find a way around Bush ey and be able to start to
close o n Reed. Reed knew w hat he had to do
and stayed a tu m ahead of Hall all the way to
the finish.
"After Bobby (Hall ) fell I just kept my pace,
and then I looked back and saw him catching up
w ith me, said Reed .
"Once I crashed on the first lap , I was jus t
trying to ride smooth and not make any more
mistakes," said Hall . "But I just couldn't catch
him."
Hall powered to the second moto holeshot
w ith Reed hot on his hee ls. Bottche r was runnin g th ird ahead of Bushey. By lap tw o, Reed
was showing Hall his front fender in the turns
as the two riders separated themsel ves from the
rest of the pack Hall got some breath ing room
when Reed had trouble in a tight , sandy righthand turn. Reed cau ght back up to Hall's back
fender only to lose ground again in the same
co m er. Hall failed to jump two sets of double
jumps that Reed was clearing , whi ch allo wed
Reed to pu ll next to Hall for an all out last lap
blitz. The two ride rs swapped paint numerous
times on the last lap. Reed was tryi ng every
mo ve in the book in an eff ort to find a way
aro und Ha ll. Hall hel d his lines and too k the
well-deserved w in.
"I was just trying to focus on wha t' had to
do . On the last lap he (Reed) was right behind
me and I was going as fast as I could 10 stay in
front: ..aid Hall. " I just bare ly went fast eno ugh
to beat him."
Reed gave his rend ition of the final lap . '"
knew he wo uld go high in on e tum so I wen t
low to cut him off and try to slow him down,
but it did n' t work . We d id the doubles together
and I went high in the next tum and a lapped
rider got in the way and we made contact , I lost
so me gro und and then it wa s too late, sa id
Reed.
Bottcher held off Bushey for the entire moto
to take a third and third overall over Bushey's :;.
4 score.

Arnold holeshot his class aboa rd a big fourstroke Honda and held off a late moto charge
from Mark McCulloch for the first -moto wi n.
Joseph Billings and Bud Lewis beat Arnold off
the start in molo two. Arnold got around Lewis
by the end of the fi rst lap then railed h is
thumper around Billings on the following lap
for the lead. McCulloch again worked up to second, but this time Arnold had an untouchable
lead.
