Brit Alec Wright will manage the team, and Dutchman Jan de Groot, formerly the team manager for South African Greg Alberty n, will be in charge of tuning and technical coordination. T he final showdown has begun over the Californ ia Desert Protection Act, reports the AMA. 0'1 ' Th is con troversial plan for the so u the rn California desert, which would ban 0'1 access to some 8 million acres of pub lic land , is now being considered by a Sena te com,......., mittee. If ap p roved there, the bill will be sent to the full Senate for approval. .. "This commit tee w ill be critica l to the fut ure of pub lic lands in the desert," noted 0'1 Robert Rasor, AMA vice president of government relations. "In years of trying, p ropoN nents of the Californ ia Desert Protection Act have never succeeded in bringing the bill H to a vote on the Senate floor. If it gets to tha t stage this year, it will be tough to stop."
