WORLDSPORTS 22ND ANNUAL f fast. As his speed built up , Gerencer got a kick out of the second jump and landed stra ight before hammering the throttle up the hill with a fabulous rooster tail followi ng him th r ou gh th e li gh ts . Gerencer Jr. recorded a time of 11.0927. Tom Reiser star ted his da y with a fast la unch that go t ou t of hand when h is Ha rley lande d out of shape coming off the first jump. Reiser fough t to gain control of his bike wh ile keeping the throttl e on, an d finally exited to the left side of the hill, just miss ing a hill wo rker at the 25o-foot mark . Reiser returned later and set his Harley far on the right in the box, out awa y from the se r ies of groo ves already cut into the hill by pr evious riders. The sprint up the hill for" Reiser got faster and faster as he worked the jumps and thun dered through the lights with a 10.1007 time log to pocket another win for the USA Team. "The second actual ride was like, 'Boy I made tha t one: and then the next one, and then it was like, 'Wow: and then I made the next one and said, 'The hell with it, let's go for it!' That's how that we n t," said Reiser. "Randy, my tea mmate, warned me tha t if I made it to the last jump, it had some serious holes up there. He sai d to be careful, so when 1 go t there a nd looked over the hand le .bars 1 just said, 'The hell with it, let's go ~ WINTER NATIONAL OLYMPICS e for it.'" Tim Frazier, multi-time cha mpion in the 540cc class, has bee n unable to come up with reliable equipment since switching to the 800cc division this year . At this round he used a new fra m e in an attempt at keeping his fading championship hopes alive . Frazier's launch on his first a ttem pt was hard and fast, but the BSA developed a pop an d quickly ca me apa rt a t the 185-foot mark . Frazier's teamma te, Scot t Everett, p rovided his spare Triumph for Fraz ier's second climb . Frazier started the run conservatively, but quickly turned the climb int o a fast and flaw less ride that stopped the clocks at 11.0139. This established Frazier's place in the number-two position. "I thought 1 was do ing good until the cylinder broke, but then 1came back and m y te a m m a te offered m e his 500cc Triumph back-up bike," said Frazier. "I didn't know wha t to expect, and I wasn't go ing to ride it because I though t I couldn't do that good on it. But things worked out and it ran good. 1 came off the line a little s lo w and th at w as because I didn't know wh at to expect. But after I hit the hill and let it g o I stayed up on it so I wouldn't flip over and kept on it. After Reiser and Fra zier beat out Ger enc er Jr: s time that he had ear lier elected to let stand, Gerencer decided to use his optional second climb and try to rec apture the lead. Gerencer's second attempt star ted well, but he came off the th ird jump out of shape and fini shed slowly. Not able to improve on Reiser or Frazier's times, Gerencer Jr. had to settle for third. "It was a rough hill today, but I think some of the guys expected that when they got here," said event referee Harold White. "That second jump seems to be starling to undercut somewhat, and was beginning to groove. Some riders had a tendency to kick the back wheel over, so unfortunately we had a couple guys injured. It was a rough day, but as usual the winners did a super job:' (l\' & GATORBACK CYCLE PARK GAI:::~~.~~ ~ For info call or write: p.o.
