Puig held the spot until the 14th lap
w hen he suddenly went from thi rd to
sixth after getting into the Corkscrew
too hot. Then it was Romboni's tum to
usher the rest. They would all stay close
until the 29th lap . At that point,
Rombon i and Biaggi were able to gain
an advantage in traffic, with Reggiani,
Puig, a nd Harada balked slightly by
slower riders. Biagg i was ho t on the tail
of Romboni, but he cras hed on the fina l
lap, ha nding second place to his countryman on a silver platter.
" I feel ce rtain 1 coul d h ave ta ken
thi rd place (act ually second)," Biaggi
said. " I had a couple of slides during the
race, bu t n othin g really serious, a nd
the n sud de nly the front broke away and
I crashe d . Fortunat el y I di dn' t injure
myself. It is a very di sappointing thing
to happen on the last lap of such a hard
race."
Romboni' s only regret wa s that he
didn't p ush hard enough in the early
sta ges of the race, but he reported that
the leg he broke ea rli er in th e season
ca use d him no problems during the
race.
Reggiani and Pui g had shaken off
Harada and their two-way d ice for third
went to the finish line w ith the Italian
barely holding off the Spaniard.
"It was impossible to attack them,"
Regg ia n i said . "I could only follow
them . I already knew that I couldn 't
p a ss them. Misano proved that you
have to sit on the b ike and wait.
The first race of the day, the 250cc United States Grand Prix,. gels underway with the pace car giving chase to the horde of 25Os.
