eMOTOCROSS e MX Series.Round 11/3 Jeff Stanton (2) led eventual winner Mike laRocco (5) and Jason McCorm ick (184) early in the second SOOcc moto. Crashes cost defending 12SecNational Champion Jeff Emig his seri es point lead. 14 Button held on for a strong fifth ahead of Suzuki's Brian Swink and Fox ' Racing' s Robbie Reynard. Reynard started the race miserably, running as far back as 21st before charging through to seventh. "1 got knocked down at the start and had to come from pretty far back," Reynard said. "1 felt faster as the race went on and I never got tired . If only I could get a good start, then I'm sure I could run with those other gu ys." Yamaha 's Damon Bradshaw and former 250cc World Champion Donny Schmit ran as high as sixth and seventh, respectively, but Bradshaw crashed and dropped out, while Schmit pulled out with a rear flaI. Moto two saw 125cc Western Regional Supercross Champion Jimmy Gaddis pull the holeshot and run up front, only to fade to 16th at the finish . Henry started second and was quick to pass Gaddis, while McGrath, Bradshaw, H ughe s, Ward and Rey nard d id th e sa me. Emig started 10th, but worked into eighth behind Reynard by the completion of lap one. As he had do ne in mot o one, Henry set a blistering pace and began to pull away from the field in the early going. McGrath held a st rong seco nd a few bike lengths ahead of a speedy-looking Bradshaw in third . Emig, meanwhile, managed to find h is way past Reynard , but couldn 't shake ·t h e highly-tou ted ro okie . Reynard retalia ted and p assed the champ on the inside of a rutted comer, and with that seemd to gain a wo rld of confidence. "He got me on a real fast part of the track, his bike is real fast," Reynard said. "But I got under him in a comer and forgot about him. I just kept looking for the next rider to pass." Lap by lap, Reynard reeled in his rivals and would pass Ward , Bradshaw and Hughes with rel ative ease. Emig did his best to follow suit, but couldn' t get around Hughes and found himself stuck in fifth. Bradshaw dropped off the pace and wou ld settle in behind Emig in sixth. "1 tried real hard at the start to ge t in between McGrath and Henry, but they were going real fast," said Bradshaw. "1 don't spend time on a 125 like they do, and I started to get a little tired and make mistakes." As the race wore on, McGrath began to close on Henry and on lap 12 found himself only a few bike lengths behind his teammate. "1 feel real comfortable wh en Jeremy is be hi nd me, " Henry said. "1 know that he won' t try any dumb mo ves on me." But just as McGrath reeled in He nry , Reyna rd bega n to reelI n McG rat h, despite the fact tha t he op ted to do ublejump a section of jumps that most of the others decided to triple. " It d id n' t feel any fa ste r to t rip le those," said Reynard. "To jump all three yo u had to go wide in the tum before, and I felt it was just as fast to go inside and do uble." Reyna rd's assumptions proved correc t, as he not only closed in o n McGrath, but began to challeng e him as well. " I n ot iced that I wa s catchin g McGr ath, then all of a sud de n I sa w Henry and thought, 'Man, I can win!'" sa id Re ynard . " 1 tr ied to go under Jeremy in a comer, but his bike was a lot faster coming out." The crowd was kept on its toes during the d osing laps, bu t there would be no furth er passing . Henry greeted the chec kered flag comfortably ahead of McGrath, who had Reynard glued to his rear fender. Hughes was alone in fourth, whi le Emig followed at a distance with Bradshaw and Ward in tow. "I felt that I could have passed Dou g," McGrath said. "But then all of a sudden Reynard caught me and I had to worry more about blocking him that trying to pass Doug. " "A perfect day, what can I say," said American Honda/Fox Racing/Shoei/ Troy Lee Designs/Sidi/Scott-backed Henry. "Every thing went my way and Emig had a few tough breaks. I just did what I had to do ." I:N Results 12 5 MOTO 1: 1. Doug Henry (Ho n); 2. Jerem y M cGra th (H on) ; 3. Ryan H ughes (Kaw); 4. Je ff Emig (Yam) ; 5. Jimmy Button (Suz ); 6.
