Jaso n won the second moto of the 80cc Jun ior class but cam e in sixth in the 60cc class after he crashed in the small whoops. Morrison doubles at LACRMX By Greg Robertso n PALMDALE,CA, AUG. 13· Rodney Mo rri son, ab oa rd a Su z uki RM 250, swept th ree out of four motos he ent ered to top both the 250cc Nov ice a nd Vet Int erm ed ia te classes u nder the lig hts a t Ca lifo rnia Rac in g Club's Friday n ig ht mo to cross, held a t Los Angeles County Racewa y. The first 250cc Novice moto was a bre eze for Morrison as he grabbed th e early lea d and didn't let up un til the checkered flag fell. Danny Bushey ran in seco nd p lace for a coup le of lap s before Brad Sch ultz flew past him a t the KalGard tower ju mp . Shawn Fortier and Mike Blair wer e working up fro m poor starts and sta rted p ressuring Bushey for th ird. Forner held it on a littl e lon ger of f a jum p to slip pa st Bushey for third with only a couple of tur ns remai ning on the last lap . Bush ey finish ed a whee l ahea d of Blair for four th. Blair led the secon d moto ahead of Ken Reed and Fortier . Morri son was seve n th after one lap . Reed go t Sideways o ff a ju m p and crashed , hand ing Fortier seco nd p lace. Mor rison was s li c~ iog th rough rid ers and was third by the seco nd lap. Blair looked smoo th all the way to the finish for a convinc ing win. Morrison reeled in Fortier an d almost go t him when Fortier had a slig ht off-track excursion . Hardman sweeps Twin Lakes Vintage Motocross By Cla y Light PRESTON, !D, AUG. 8 Jack Hardman brought out a trio of 1974 Suz uki TM mo torcycles to pu ll out a sensationa l accom plishm ent at Twin Lakes Motocross Park's first a ll vintage motocross race, a race which is up for consideration as an AH RMA West Regi on al in 1994. Hardman out rode his com pe titio n in all four classes he en tered, the 125, 250, 500cc an d 30+ events , to take the da y's top honors ove r riders from Idah o, Utah , Ne vada, Ca lifornia, Wyom ing and O rego n. Hardm an tirs t topped the 125cc class, wh ich co m bined t he In te rme d ia tes and Novices . Har dm an 's TMI25 was just a blur to the rest o f the pack. The only rider to keep Ha rdma n in his sigh ts was RobertBorg. Borg trailed Hardman in both motos, riding his Pento n to a 2-2 ta lly . Jack Hard man stormed back to imm ed iately tro unce the 250cc competition, but. in itia lly had to fend off Jack Baugh man , Kim Morgan, Robert Borg and Breon Robe rtson . Spang ler 'grabbed th e h olesh ot in the first moto wi th Ma rt y Merz an d Ben Tra sk close be hind . . As Spa ngler wa s ma king himself fam ilia r with the track, Mer z and Pete r Ma lyj were battling ove r se cond, just off Spa ngler 's pace. Malyj mo ved int o seco nd a t the halfway point of the mote, bu t Spangler was lon g gone wit h the moto w in . Malyj wa s second and Merz thir d . Tras k held onto to fou rth . Spangler again grab be d th e e ar ly lead in moto two w ith Merz a ndMa lyj giving chase. Ma lyj to ok ove r secon d on la p two a nd kep t p a ce with Sp angler fo r the fir s t part o ff the moto, a nd they pu lled away fro m Merz, who was in th ird . At the ha lfwa y poi nt of the race, Spangler kicked in the afte rb urners and .pulled away for an un challenged wi n . Malyj was a comfortable second with Merz in third. Gar rett Russe ll moved up to fourth. In t h e first Vintage m oto, Sco tt Flo hr grabbed the holesh ot and held the lead until the last lap, whe n Wayne Barbe r found an ope ning and moved by fo r the wi n. Robert McCa rthy also got by Flohr for second . Flohr wa s third. Jim Co ry grabbed the lead in mo to two with McCa rthy seco nd and Barber th ird . All th ree rider s fou gh t over the lead , taking turns in the fro n t p osition . Bu t in th e en d , it wa s Barber moving from third to first on the last lap to take th e win and the overall. Cory finish ed second for third ove rall, and McCar thy was third in the mot o for seco nd overa ll. Dav e Carme n stole the holeshot in the first Se n io r B m ot o with John Sti egl er i a n d Fred Lucas following .
