9MOTOCROSS e Finals Davey Yezek (l2) finis hed second behind Shea!< in the 125and 250cc Modified A classes. James Stewart enjoyed the fruits of victory after winning the SIccStock 17-8 year-old) title. 14 the final moto, could only mana ge 17th overall due to a DNF in race one. Aaron Lind say scored two wins and a second in thr ee hea ts of 65cc raci ng. Eric William s, th ird in th e 85cc 7- 11 class, was the vice-champion in the 65cc d ivision. Jonathan Shimp took the final spot on the podium with three top- three rides. James Stewart, Jr. had narrowly lost the 1992 Pee Wee Stock title to David Whitcraft, but Whi tcraft graduated to the 65cc class and Stewa rt was left to contend wi th Whitcraft's younger br other Christopher. Unfazed , the Scott/WD40 /PJI /Scott-b acked Stewart nailed down three convincing moto w in s to avenge his ' 92 d efeat, though Christopher upheld the Whitcraft family honor with hi s second-place performance. [erod Whipple was also in contention with two second-place finishes, but a p roblematic th ird moto saw him fall all the wa y back to 31st posit ion. Ohio's Andy Willard rounded out th e top three. The 51cc Stock (4-7) class was ad ded to the '93 program for younger competitors. Stephen Ma r tin fini sh ed first all three times out to earn the debut title in this class ahead of Broc Hepler and Kyle Partridge. As always, the Women's class p rovid ed some of the best racing of th e week . Kaw asaki rid ers Kristy Sh ealy a nd De e W o od a nd Su zu ki rider Cyn th ia Cole batt led to th e checkered flag in all th ree m ot os. The title fight came d own to the last lap s of the final race when Wood , who was lead ing the race, was in position to claim the overall vic to ry with Shealy r u n ning thi r d be hi nd Cole. But Cole crashed on the far si de of the track and could n ot restar t her bik e r ight away, lea ving Shealy to st ep up into second which was all she needed for the class championshi p. "Tha t's the thing about racing - any. thin g can h a ppen," sai d th e Team Gr e en / CT i I P ro C ircui tl Mo t u l I Ts uba ki I 100% I Dunlop I Sho ei I S id il Acerbis/Pro-Spo rt-supported Shea ly in th e winner's circle . " It was anybod y's ba ll game today. Dee and Cindy and 1 were all p robab ly a little bit nervous coming into this race bu t once we got on the track it all worked out. " "Tha t was the bes t I've ridden all w eek ," sa id overall class runner-up Wood of her last-moto victory. "I wish I had ridden like tha t at the beg inning of the week but it just d idn 't work out that we ll. Still, a moto win is a p ret ty good feeling." Windham es tablished himself as the 12Scc Schoolboy rider to bea t in the very firs t race of the week, the 125cc Stock (12-15) op ener. The 15-year- old ran off an d h id from a fierc e early battle tha t included Travis Preston, J.D. Collins and Joshu a Swea t. All week long Windham rode with mechanical precision , d omina ting all six stock and modified motos in the 125cc (12-15) divisions. This marked the second yea r in a row that Windh am has wo n all si x of the moto s he en tered at Loretta Lynn's, giving h im a r emarka bl e record of 12 straig ht moto wins. The closest he came to losing a ra ce was in th e la st 125c Stock class moto, when a bad sta rt was compounded by the fact that Sweat was setting a lig h tn ing -qu ick pa ce a t th e fron t of the 42-rider pack. "On the start I was involved with a g uy who went d own in fro n t and ra n me off the track," said Windha m of his co me back. " I got out of sh ape, th en I ma d e th e m is ta ke o f follow ing so me people throug h unfa miliar ru ts a nd I went down in a turn . Sw eat was way ou t there and it kind of worried me, but then he wen t down and it helped me relax a little bit. I've felt com fortable all week . I' ve jus t been get ting ou t there and riding smooth - everythi ng 'S been going my way." Pres to n ended up se co n d w hil e Michael York scored third . Sweat had three runner-up rides in the 125cc Modi fied cla ss for sec o nd ove rall beh ind Windham. T . Ryan Kaichen was third overall. There was no definitive sta r of the B classes, as six differen t cha m p ions e m er g ed in the s ix division s . Ra y Mitchell stru ck gold first, ea rning himself the 250cc B Modified win. Mitchell was the gracious recipient of the cha mpionshi p after Richie Horton, winner of the first two motos, separated his sho ulder before the final round was com pleted . While Horton plummeted to 14th in the fina l ra nk ings , Shawn Schultz rode to the runner-up slot wi th a 2-3-2 showing. Timmy Staufenbe il ed ged Ad am Bechdel for the final spot on the pod ium. In the Sto ck 250cc B cl as s, Case y Johnson left no d oors open for Mitchell, Robbie Skaggs or Forres t Tra nsue. The Kawasaki pil ot wo n all three motos in th e process of clinch ing his fir st -ever title at Loretta Lynn'S. Skaggs was second in all threemotos while Transue trailed in third overall. Skaggs and Transue each won their own titles later in the schedule. Skaggs captured the 125cc Mod ified ch ampion ship after back in g up a fifth-place first-moto ri de w ith two moto w ins. Greg Schnell sco red runner-up hon ors while Jeff Willoh earned third. Transue topped the 125cc B Stock class, capitalizing on the unsteady ou tings of Schnell, Maximoff and the unfortunate Ho rto n, each o f w hom won a moto but could not back it up. Hor ton had first- and seco nd- place finishes in the first two motes, but sat out the last race wit h the aforem entioned sho ulde r inju ry. Pa ul Currie edged Schnell for second overall. Keith Mayes capt ured the Open B/ C trophy, pu tting in three virtually flaw less rid es fo r the w in . Brook Fluker picked up the second-place troph y with a third and two seconds while Beecher Simmons edged Ka wasa ki-moun te d Michael Amadeo for third. C\" Resu lts 125 A M OD: 1.
