PRODUCT EVALUATION Kendon Industries: 30 Stand Up Transport folding trailer w n ing mo torcycles can create a dilemma for those who have a limited amount of storage space, or do n' t have a tru ck to haul their bikes to their favorite riding places. The storage problem is certai nly compounded when you must purchase a trailer to transport yo ur bike(s). Unless you have a garage big enough to house a Boeing 747, there just isn' t enougli room in most garages to sto re motorcycles, cars, tools, bicycles, washe r, d ryer and a traile r. At leas t that's the way it is a t my house. Luckily, Kendon Industries has come up with a product th at ca n greatly alleviate the congestio n p roblem with its Sta nd Up Moto rcycle Tra nsport, a fold-up threerail trailer. It's bu ilt from an all-steel-welded triang ulate d frame design, and whe n it' s not in use, the trailer easily folds into an 80-inch tall , 70-inc h wi de a nd 22-inch deep co nfigu ra tio n tha t rolls on ball bearing cast ers. In thi s sh ape, it can be scooted around and fitted into the sa me space as an average -size motorcycle. At 235 pound s, the trailer is light enough for 'one person to fold up the back portions of each of the three rails, tip up on the casters and maneuver ar ound th e garage. The .trailer features an independ ent rubber suspension ax le, a lOOO-pou nd O pa yload capacity, stainless steel h inges, and 12 inches of ground clea ranc e. As far as wheel and tire comb ina t i o n s , you have the choice of ei ther the "standard" 5.70 x 8-inch solid wheels, or the mo re spo rty look ing 4.80 x 12inch spoke w heels. The idea of a folding trailer with an independent ru bber suspension ' ax le sounds a bit flimsy to us, bu t the n u mer o us times in th e pas t year . w e've used th e Stand Up Tran sport fold ing trailer, we have been p le ased a t ho w solid it felt while towing under a load , even with three bikes aboard -.Witho u t a load, though, it ski tters around a bit because of its fairly s tiff suspension . Attention to de tail is co m m end ab le, w it h goo d- loo k i ng a n d seemi n g ly h ig h quali ty whi te p ow der -coa ted paint fi nish, and the fold ing action was s moo th a nd easy. Our u ni t was teste d with s eve ra l optional upgrad e s , i ncl u ding a re tr actab le jack s ta nd, and 12-inc h s poke / mag wheel s (soli d eig ht-inch wh eel s are s ta nda rd) . Ke ndon a ls o has k i ts availa b le to convert th is m o d el to use fo r a s ingle pe rson al w a ter cr aft, and plans to market sto rage tr a y s fo r gear bags, and fuel trays designed to carry five-gallon Jerry Jug con tainers. Perha p s t he biggest drawback of the Stand Up Transport is the suggested retail p rice. The basic model carries a price tag of $899. Compa re th at to more tradition al three-rail trailers that u su a ll y cos t around $500, a nd th e St and Up tra iler is ce r tainly p ricey . Overall, the Sta nd Up trail er is a pretty nea t idea , a nd for th ose w ho ar e hurtin g for sp ace, like m ost o f us in th e g rea te r Los An g el es a re a, $899 ' migh t not so u nd to o bad af ter all.
