jeremy West worked har d to try and score a perfect fo u r-mo to sweep o f the 125 a nd 250cc C
classes at Birch Cree k Mo torspo rts Park, only to
fall sho rt by posting a second-place finish in one
of his 125cc motos.
West looked strong as he holeshot moto one
in the 125cc division with Sydney William s in
tow. Step hen Harkrad er se ttled his Suzuki into
third beh ind the lead pair, ahead of Scott Beard
and jeff Shore. West went on to lead the first
four circu its befor e Williams overtook him a nd
roost ed to th e mot o w in. West ne ver allow ed
Will iam s to get ou t of striking di stance, but
could no t make an y p ass a ttem p ts s tic k.
Harkrader was able to maintain a steady pa ce,
and kept Beard at ba y to fin ish th ird . Budd y
Ta y lo r ca me throu gh to dis p lace Sh or e a nd
rounded ou t the top five in moto one.
West came back in moto two with a ho lesho t
repeat, but this time he was not abou t to give up
any pos tions. Wes t took the second moto wi th a
flag-t o-flag win, while Willi ams kept a steady
dri ve to finish second . Shore mad e a nice comeback after a two-y ear injury layoff to wo rk into
the top three in mota two .
Wes t took bo th mo to w ins in th e 250cc C
cL1ss with very little resista nce, and left the pac k
to battl e it ou t for the top five spots. The onl y
m ista ke West se e me d to make wa s w hen he
pu lled o ff th e tra ck o n e lap ea rl y wh en h e
thou ght he go t the checkered flag on the w hiteflag lap . Keith Newton was ab le to secure the
runner~u p spot in both motos.
Shane Tem p leton's return to racing a fter a
one and a half-month layoff from a broken collarbone proved not to be too premature, as he was
able to post the overall win in the 250cc A class
via a 2-1 tally. Templeton's attempt at success in
the 125cc class was stopped in pra ctice when the
long, wind in g cou rse bl ew u p h is machine .
Templeton could on ly ma nage second in mot o
one of the 250cc A class because of a blazing-fast
Billy Cox. Co x set a fast pace ea rly and rod e a
flawless moto for the win ah ead of Templeton.
Ian Fortune w orked his way int o th ird by the
halfway poin t with a pass on Donni e Miller.
Cox again jumped out fron t in moto two , but
Templeton kept him in sight and took over the
lead when Co x's bike got a sma ll rock lod ged
between the rear brake petal and the side case.
Cox was unable to remove the stone qu ickly and
that was all Templ eton need ed to run away with
the win. Cox recovered in time for second .
