JUNE 13 Moving up to the SOOcc class was obvio usly a big plus for Casey Musick's racing career, as the hotsh oe put his big KX into the lead in bot h mo tos of the 500cc Novice cla ss to sco re the overall win. Th e battle wa s fo r se co nd place as Ian Hobson and joe Vella diced back an d forth on the rough Hollister track, never more than a few bike lengths aw ay from each other. As a result, they trad ed mota wins with Vella edging o ut Hobson. . The hoUy-contested 125ccNovice class had a newcom er , and 15 othe r riders got to see the back wh eel of 13-year-old Tyler Evans , fresh fro m the 80cc ranks. Reco vering fro m a mediocre star t in mota one, Evans work ed his way methodi cally through the pack to ass ume third place by lap four of the seve n-lap mota. Scott Davis used his experience to take the lead with joey Toste in second . They soon felt the pounding of Eva ns, tr ying to ge t past, bu t he was held off to the checkered flag. Mota two was much of the same for Davis, but Ryan Brink got a good start and held onto seco nd place until Eva ns was the re ag ain in third, put ting on the heal On the fifth lap. Evans lost it in a sandy section an d d rop ped back to 10th. He recovered almos t a lap down from the lead ers, but managed to move up to seventh for the mo ta and tallied a well-deserved third overall. Results r/w BEG: 1. Andy I'icTce (Yam ); 2. Hea t two saw friendly rivals jack Mayer and Bryan Villella go at it in their now -familiar style of cat and mouse. Mayer took the lead off the ligh t with Ron Forstner and Erjc O'Boyie coming between the two. Villella watched as Mayer pu t an immc>diate gap on the field while Villella fo ugh t to get o ut of the tr affic jam . Villella passed by O'Boyie down the front stretch in lap two. then drafted by Forstn er on the opposite side of the track on the sa me lap . Villella had worked up a good sweat to the finish line but Mayer had the lock on the checkered flag. Villella woul d later pay Mayer back by leaving him behind to finish second in the Combo class, while Villella wa lked away with most of the cash. Forstner watched his third-p lace finish slip by him just as the whit e flag flew, as slowstarter Dave Kolen da took over the spot in the blink of an eye. . Gary Morel went virtu ally unchallenged from start to fmish in the third hea t, with Bren t Annbrus ter the only rider close enough to take j!d van tage of a mistak e that never hap pened. Eric O'Boyie and Kirk Wirick picked up the last two spo ts on the fmal line with their 1-2 finish in the LCQ sending the rest of the field packing. Only a few hund red ths of a second separated the three heats, but Doug O'Boyie clocked in fastest, giving him choice spot off the line. Doug O' Boyle ,kicked up a cloud of dus t off the sta rt and took the lead ahead of Armbruster. After ride rs sor ted themsel ves out Dave Kolenda sta ked his claim on second place and played a perfect blocking game with Pat Buchanan, who tried in vain to find a way around him.
