Kiedrowski, McGrath heat it up at Hangtown By Chrisjonnum RANCHO CORDOVA, CA, JUNE 20 I the silver anniversary running of the Hangtown National, Team Kawasaki's Mike Kiedrowski and Team Honda's Jeremy McGrath survived near-1oo degree temperatures to record overall victories at the traditional Dirt Diggers M.C.-promoted event. Kiedrowski won both motos in the 250cc class and extended his series points lead, while McGrath finished second to Yamaha's Jeff Emig in the first 125cc molo before going on to win moto two. The 24-year-old Kiedrowski had an easy time of it in the 250cc division, leading from start to finish and winning by comfortable margins in both motos. Defending champ Jeff Stanton worked his way up from a mediocre start in the first moto, passing Honda teammate and local hero Steve Lamson to take second place. In the second and deciding mota, Lamson returned the favor when Stanton struggled late in the race with a sore back. Lamson, who topped Hangtown's 125cc class last year, finished second in the moto and second overall - his best-ever finish in the class. Stanton, who slid to fourth by the end of the second molo, was third overall. "1 didn't have any problems at all," said Kiedrowski, who hails from Acton, California. "It was one of those races you just dream of. 1survived Mt. Morris and here, which aren't my favorite tracks, so I should win the rest of them." Fourth overall went the way of team A 14 Kawasaki's Mike LaRocco, who suffered from trademark poor starts but shredded through the pack to 4-3 finishes, and fifth was Tuf Racing-backed privateer John Dowd, who at the muddy Hangtown National two years ago won the 250cc class. Kiedrowski's wins put him one step closer to scoring his first-ever 250cc championship. With the series half over, his advantage over Stanton is now 31 points, 19.2-161. Dowd moved up one position and with 135 points now sits in third place in the standings, an impressive feat for a non-factory rider. Lamson, with 125 points, is fourth, and LaRocco, who missed the first round with a broken wrist, is fifth with 120. Emig walked away with the first 125cc moto, leaving McGrath far behind. Newly crowned 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross Champion Doug Henry had to pass an impressive James Dobb before placing third. Emig snared another holeshot in moto two, but this time he went down early on the first lap and remounted dead last. McGrath inherited the lead, and with it the moto and overall wins. Emig spent the entire moto passing riders, climbing as high as seventh by moto's end. That, combined with his first-moto win, was good enough for third overall "1 feel stoked to win another outdoor National," said McGrath. "We've been doing a lot of testing on the bike and it
