Miller masters Lake Perris Speedway By Elaine Jones LAKE PERRIS, CA, MAY 13 Greg Miller came away with his first win in Division One as he won the Handicap main at Lake Perris Speedway on Thursday night. Slarting on the H)-yard line he held off an impressive field for eight laps. Miller appeared to have things well in hand, but everything behind him was up for grabs. Jim Estes was second but Brent Werner, Scott Brant, Mike Mazzacane, Charlie Venegas, Shawn McConnell and Rodd Saunders were close enough to throw a blanket over. Everyone was trying to find a line that would work. Brant went to the outside and it cost him as he dropped to seventh. Venegas and McConnell pressured Mazzacane into a mistake on the sixth lap, and one lap later Estes lost concentration, which dropped him to the back of the pack. Werner moved into second with two laps to go but could go no higher. McConnell got Venegas at the tape for the third. The heads up, go-for-it Scratch main squared off the who's-who of speedway when Mike Faria, Brant, National Champion Chris Manchester and Venegas rolled to the line. Venegas was too eager and had a short race when he rolled into the tape on the start. In Speedway that's a load them, the night's over infraction. The four man go was down to three. It was Faria wire-to-wire and all Brant and Manchester could do was follow him home. There was an added bonus to the racing program in the form of a Match race between Faria and Brad Oxley. Tw<>-Iap races were run in the best-twlHlut-of-lhree format. It went the distance with the lead changing at every comer. Faria took the first go, Oxley the second and Faria by a wheel in the tie-breaker. The crazy sidecars are crowd-pleasers any night they run, and things were no different tonight. After a couple of bumpy starts and a little motocross action things settled down and the Kawasaki of Peter Lewis and Jamie Macy got to the turn first and that was aU she wrote. Drik Gardner and Doug Lynch battled with Dave Stevens and Eric Gilbert, with the nod going to Gardner and Lynch for the runner-up spot. Randy Fannin took the win in the Support main with GeOrge Fox coming from behind for the second and Rick Pot rounding out the field with third. Results SCRATCH: 1. Mike Fm. (Wei); 2.
