eEVENTS A great rider turnout made for a full 4O-man gate in the 250cc C class. As a giant cloud of dust settled upon the crowd, Jason Stewart jumped into the lead followed closely by Charles Morrison, while the following riders elbowed th.eir ~ay through the four-lap event. By lap two Morrison gassed his way into a commanding lead. The 5 tart of moto two was as wild as the first. Patrick Gualtieri grabbed the holeshot as first-moto winner Morrison held second, followed by Jason Stewart, Joe Olish and Joe Cartia. A great moto-Iong battle between these riders let Morrlson blast past Gualtieri and on to the checkered flag to secure the overall. Results ~ ... 0\ ! OPEN A: 1. Shannon Rohoildes (Hon); 2. Suzuki-mounted Sean Hogan was the only 250cc A nder to keep Neiderheiser in eyesight throughout the day. . The first 125cc C Group n moto thundered Into turn one with Suzuki-mounted Jason Markwosky stealing the holeshot, thus avoiding the five-bike pile-up in tum one. Markwosky, closely followed by KX-mounted Tom Worrick, led the first lap. Meanwhile, slashing his way to the front was Craig Maurer. By lap three Maurer had disposed of Worrick and was hot on the heels of Markwosky. Pulling even on the jump at the announcers tower, Maurer pushed ahead on th~ inside line of turn two to lead Markwosky to the whoop-infested back straight. Never headed, Maurer stretched his lead to some 15 seconds to take the checkered flag first. A holeshot in moto two gave Maurer the edge to lead every lap for the day's overall win. VET B: l. Sober SAN BERNARDINO, CA, MAY 5 Budding speedway superstar Scott Brant ran away with both halves of the first-division mains on opening night at Glen Helen Speedway. Joe-Erhardt won the Support-elass main and the duo of Ross Miller/Dale Leeder took the Sidecar-e1ass top-finishing honors. .Brant ~ad.e short work of the Handicap main. Starting on the 50-yard line next to the likes of former multi-time National Champions Mike Faria and Bobby Schwartz, as well as Gary Hicks, Brant took a positively selfish attitude toward what he obviously viewed as his own personal event to win. After one .restart deposited 20-yard-starter Rod Saunders back to think things over on the penalty 6O-yard line, Brant took off like a demon from the first bell, actually moving within a bike length of the lead before the first Jap was in the books. At the completion of lap two the verdict was in; baring technical difficulties Brant would move away and enjoy a comfortable margin of victory, which is exactly what he dId. Venegas ran his own particular line to the second-place money as Faria never could make the outside work to his liking to move beyond third. Sch)Varlz picke I.IN A
