Godspeed, Jimmy On Sunday, March 7, my husband, Jimmy Adamo, was killed in a tragic accident during the Daytona 200. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the special people who have helped me and my two children during this most difficult time. First, I would like to thank Warren Elliot for helping us to get home safely and taking care of Jamie, my three-yearold, during a time when I could barely care for my infant, Danie11e. Thanks also Dave Moon, Eric Moe and Dave Smith for seeing that all of Jimmy's equipment was packed and brought back home. And thanks to the Daytona International Speedway medical staff and track crew for doing all they could for Jimmy and helping my family. I would like to thank all the people involved in the many fund-raising events that have taken place or are going to take place, and all the people who have sent donations to me 'and my children along with the many beautiful cards and letters that have touched me deeply. A special thank you to Manfred Hec.'ht, a longtime friend of Jimmy's, for stepping in and handling a lot of difficult situations and just being there when I needed him. I don't know what I would have done without you, Manfred! I also wish to thank all the different companies who were associated with Jimmy and Gio. Ca. Moto, USA for their help and support. And last but not least, thank you to my family who are here now, and always to love and support us. In closing, I would like to share something that was written in a monthly publication by a local police officer who works with one of my sisters. It helps to answer one of the many questions I have about faith. NI know that someone will ride his motorcycle whenever he wants and as fast as he. wants and nobody will complain about the noise and you can never get hurt. Earth's loss is heaven's gain." Once again, thank you all and goodbye for now. Jimmy, we love and miss you. Melanie, Jamie &. Danielle Adamo Glen Cove, NY Close quarters I just return~d from my first and last supercross race, the Pasadena Supercross at the Rose Bowl. After several weeks of convincing family and friends how great supercross is, the day finally arrives. After finally finding the entrance to the Rose Bowl, we were given some very rude instructions as to how we were to park. Then after entering, we were rudely bossed to where we were to sit by someone on some sort of power trip. Once in our seats, we found that there was so little leg room that if you needed to get something to eat or use the restroom, it was next to impossible to leave or return. Plus we had heavy metal music blasted in our ears at about 3000 decibels for at least two hours. It was incredibly annoying and I couldn't even talk to my family or friends. We had beer spilled on us, were struck in the head several times by paper airplanes, subjected to the wave while trying to watch racing, and my wife returned from the restroom to tell me there was a man in the women's restroom. Leaving was like being in the middle of a demolition derby. My friends and my wife said they would never go again. . Unless you're a young bizarre looking heavy metal fan with an IQ of about 40 and no regard for people or property, I recommend you stay home next year. It was a miserable experience. Robert McCall Upland,CA Miniature-golf Thank you very much for mailing me a free ticket to the Charlotte National. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend. I did read in your paper that Doug "The Master" Polen won. I will be attending the Loudon National and Doug had better get the holeshot because it's tough to pass on that miniature-golf course of a race track. I hope the guys put on a good show compared to the spread-out freight train races that have taken place there (New Hampshire International Speedway) since 1990. I hate to be negative, but Loudon's a far cry from the old days. . Rich Burdick Waterford, cr Just as fans and racers alike knocked supercross when it first started, so are fans and racers criticizing the road race courses inside mile and 1.5 mile oval tracks. But just as fans and racers came to accept motocross racing inside stadiums, road race fans and racers better get used to tracks inside speedways; they're the future, Rich. Five of the 12 1993 AMA National Championship Road Race Series rounds were scheduled to take place on speedway oval/road courses (Phoenix Internatioruzl R1ICJ!Way, Daytona International Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, New Hampshire International Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway). Although Daytona's 3.56 course is longer than all but one (Road America, 4 miles) of the "true" road race circuits, the Phoenix and Loudon courses are both only 1.6 miles long, the shortest on the Natioruzl circuit. The shift to tracks at other than road raceonly facilities is not limited to motorcycle road racing as is evidenced by the number of street circuits being run by the Indy Car set (Long Beach, Detroit, etc.)...
