eEVENTS e swing wide to avoid him. '1 guess I was about .fifth out of the tum. I got the holeshot at the ftrst race and haven't had a good start since. I passed everyone in the first long straightaway. I doubled out of the big rolling whoops and passed Mack there: said Lane. "That was pretty much the race. N Hoenshell wasn't quite as comfortable in the mud and took a lillie longer to reel in Steve Mack. HoenshelJ was by third place, Jeff Pearson, in the second lap, but Mack proved to be more challenging as the two exchanged position several times. HTIte first time I caught Steve, he went wide through a mud hole and I thought I would just hit the middle and pass him. There was a wall under the water and I crashed. My bike was almost totally under water, said HoenshelL Hoenshell finally got the bike drained and caught Mack late in the race. He went on to pass him, but he couldn't hold off Mack in the fasl sections. While Hoenshell and Mack were going at it, Lane was pulling away, wrapping up the wjn with over a three·minute advantage. Hoenshell won his battle with Mack, taking the runner-up spot. Results H Jason DePatto sailed over a Starwest SX jump en ~ute to second in the 125cc Pro class. In moto one, Robbie Couse jammed out of the gate in front of everyone, but just when he looked as if he had control of the lead, his Kawasaki slid out from underneath him and left him at the back of the pack. Danny Carlson avoided the fallen rider and assumed his position at the front with Cheselske and Tyson Taylor hot on his heels. Cheselske began to look for Carlson's weak spot, and for the next couple of laps studied his lines. On the third go-round, Cheselske stuck to Carlson's rear fender up until the pair rounded the corner leading up to NTwin Peaks', the infield double jump. Cheselske went wide out to the berm and blasted his way past Carlson with a ~foot jump, easily clearing the double. Carlson was hot and closed up the gap as the two soared over the finish-line tabletop. Carlson made his presence known as he stuck his front wheel inside of Cheselske's Honda, but to no avail. As the pair once again approached the Twin Peaks jump, Carlson elected not to double as Cheselske soared out of his reach. Meanwhile, Gouse was charging up from the back of the pack and now had Taylor in his sights. Couse was the only other 80cc rider clearing the double, and used it to sky past Taylor and into third. TIte laps were clicking off as Couse tried to close the gap on the leaders. Up front, Cheselske continued to open a larger gap between himseU and Carlson, and went on to •take the checkered with a safe margin. Carlson was second, ahead of Couse and Taylor. When the gate dropped for moto two, CheseJske was on the money as far as his liming went and he led the pack through tum one. Carlson was a strong second with Couse hounding him all the way. As the pack funnelled through turn two, Couse went wide and pulled alongside Carlson as they crested the Pyramid step-« N ' - (Suz); ....... HombUn (Y....); S. C'"S lAndbyeo-(!(ow~ 125 BEG ~1: 1.
