tire again gave him grief - and so did the Ducatis. "I can cope with a sliding rear out of a corner, but not going in. It was worse this time. And those Ducatis. I can make up time through the comers, my corner speed is much higher but they always come back on the brakes." Pirovano was fifth, even though he'd lapped faster in the second race. Mertens was sixth, some seven seconds further back, just holding Fogarty off in the Sachskurve on the final lap. Fogarty said: "My bike wasn't so strong in the second race. It would bare.)y pull sixth. I reckon I was riding harder this time (than the first race), but I couldn't pass people. out of the slipstream. I got Mertens going into the Sachs on the last lap, but he had the line and pushed me out wide." Georgian Tripp Nobles finished 19th and 21st. Those finishes might not sound like much, but considering he is riding an obsolete Honda RC30, he acquitted himself well. "Those guys could run me down on the straights, but I was having fun in the turns," Nobles said. "First race I was looking for the white flags (used to indicate the last lap in AMA Nationals) and planned to set (Brian) Morrison up - but the flag never came out. I actually grazed Morrison when I pulled out of his slipstream going into one of the chicanes. He didn't looked too pleased with me:' (N Results SB QUALIFYINC: 1. Scott Russell (2:03.64): 2.
