never challenged. Burrows charged his way up from a relatively poor start to claim second ahead of Nicholson, Villacaro, and a race-along battle between Penton rider Al Gardner, Kretschmer and the Montesa VR250 of Eric Kraft. Sportsman division first-moto action saw holeshot artist Dorsey Bennett on an Ossa Phantom with the early lead over the Hondas of Scott Lanier, Joel 5ummer and Jimmy Harner. Lanier passed Bennett on the fourth lap and held on for the win followed by Bennett, Summer and Lisa Powell on her '74 Elsinore 125. Moto two's start was a rerun of the Hrst, with Bennett again claiming the holeshot. After a poor start, Joel Summer charged from the back of the pack to assume the lead on lap three, followed by Lanier, Bennett and Harney. Powell waited until lap three to begin her charge with an outstanding ride to claim second place by the end of the moto ahead of Harney and Bennett Seventeen riders entered the highly-<:ompetitive Super Vintage class, where anything goes, as long as it has drum brakes and an air-<:ooled motor. Both Garlin and Joel Nicholson opted to ride their short-travel pre-'75 vintage bikes in the Super Vintage class, and came away with first and second overall for their efforts. In moto one, Peter Villacaro pushed his '81 Maico 440 into the early lead, only to run into bike problems which relegated him to the back of the pack and allowed Garlin into the lead followed by Maico-mounted Van Aderhold, Nicholson, Burrows (on another of his many Maicos) and Dorsey Bennett, also on a Maico. By lap four, Burrows had worked his way up to second place, only to crash and drop to fourth at the finish behind Garlin, Nich01son and Aderhold. A rainy second moto saw Villacaro again with the holeshot, followed by Aderhold, Burrows, Nicholson and Garlin. Garlin began his charge on lap two and was able to pass Villacaro on the final lap to complete his perfect day. Garlin was followed by Villacaro, Burrows, Nicholson and Bennett who passed Aderhold in the final tum to claim fifth. Super Vintage moto two also provided the closest racing of the day with an exciting three- bike battle for seventh between Rudy Savelli on a '75 Elsinore 250, Bil Burton on Husqvama 250 and Maico 400-mounted Russ McAllister. The three battled the entire moto, crossing the startfinish tabletop three-abreast lap after lap, with McAllister finally prevailing at the checkered flag, followed closely by Burton and Savelli.
