to go - myself, Jan, Scott and Blackwell.
Nobody wanted to lead; everybody
wanted to follow. I was hoping that
Blackwell would get tired and I think he
did. But then I made a mistake and
caught a rock with the back end and
down I went. After that I couldn't get
motivated to catch back up to those
guys. Third is okay for today. Maybe it
will be my tum next time."
While Plessinger broke away with
the lead and Blackwell faded, Hrehor
began to make his move to the front.
Unfortunately for the Yamaha rider,
Plessinger was already too far gone.
"Scott was riding very well; I could
not beat him," said Hrehor. "My strategy to wait until the end to go worked,
but I had a few problems on the last lap.
I was stuck on a hillside behind a slower
rider and I lost 20 or 30 seconds because
of it. After that I knew that I could not
catch Scott so I quit (and held on) for
second. My bike was not working very
good by that time becaUse of too much
dust on the filter."
Plessinger threw his dust-covered
goggles into the 'crowd as he accepted
the checkered flag for his first series
victory of the season. Hrehor cruised
across the line about two minutes later;
Andrews followed at a further deficit
of 60 seconds. Blackwell finished
fourth, less than a minute behind
Andrews.
Craig Jones, piloting a Kawasaki
KX125, rode a masterful race to win the
200cc A class. Jones moved into the lead
of his class on the first of six laps and
then climbed steadily through the overall ranks until he landed in fifth posi-
tion. Stan Lojak was a distant runner-up
in the smaIl bore class while Kevin
Brandon finished 20 seconds behind
Lojak in third.
Shephard finished an eye-opening
sixth overall, and his finish came at the
expense of a dozen other Vet A (+30)
class riders. The Yamaha pilot completed the race with a considerable lead on
Vet A runner-up Rick Kresic. Gallie
Ward finished just less than a minute
behind Kresic.
Team Green's Terry Cunningham,
tenth overall at Loretta Lynn's in March,
had a problematic day on his Kawasaki
KX125 and could only manage fourth in
the class.
Tommy Harris rolled to the Open A
class win - his second in a row - and
15th overall. Ron Palermo placed second
in the 14-rider group while '92 Open B
class champ Shawn Brell scored third.
Brell currently leads the points chase in
the Open A class.
After a slow start in '93, Dwain
Miller seems to have found his pace in
the 250cc A class. Miller finished third at
the previous round of the GNCC series
in Maryland and then won his class at
Boyers, barely edging Blair Sharpless by
just a couple of bike lengths in the closest class battle of the day. Together, they
accounted for the ninth (Miller) and
tenth-place overall finishes.
