"After I passed Fred I had no problems until the last lap when I fell on the
uphill," said the Yamaha/Athens,
Lancaster, Ohio/Sport Cydes/ProCircu it / Sc 0 tt / MS R / Bieffe,
Boyesen/W .E.R. /Metzeler /ProTaper/Tsubaki/Sprocket
Specialists/Bel-Ray-backed Hrehor. "It
took maybe 30 seconds to get going but
I did not see anyone (catching me). I
knew that I was 50 seconds ahead to
start the last lap, so I was not so worried
about falling on the hill. In the end my
plan to wait and watch worked for me."
Hrehor and Andrews, each of whom
have recorded one "DNF" in three
GNCC rounds to date, moved into second- and third-place in the standings
behind Summers. Suzuki's Rodney
Smith, previously tied with Summers
for the lead, did not attend the
Maryland event. A rider's best eight of
13 finishes count towards the series
championship title.
Craig Jones topped the 14-rider 200cc
A class with room to spare. The 22-yearold Kawasaki rider held a lead of almost
10 minutes on longtime Eastern woods
hero Stanley Lojak and climbed all the
way into the seventh overall position as
top non-Pro rider. Michael Burk gave
the state of Pennsylvania a clean sweep
of the top three 200cc A positions with
his third-place efforts.
American Suzuki's Mark Hyde
strapped his boots on for the 250cc A
race and the 33-year-old former
National Hare Scrambles champ landed
the top finish in class. Hyde just barely
edged fellow Suzuki pilot Blair
Sharpless, from Canada, in the race of
the day. The two swapped the lead
countless times, with Hyde making the
final pass on the last lap. Dwain Miller
finished third.
