beat fellow ATA member Dive Hannon, 17-26, for the only home club win of the day. "The loop was tough," Croft said. "But, as long as everyone is riding the same thing, it's okay. The sections were all cleanable and relatively easy compared to the loop. Like Lane, Croft found riding the loop between the fifth and sixth sections to be a personal challenge. "I felt quite chuffed when I cleaned it all the WiY down," Croft said. Mike Fenner dominated the Intermediate class by cleaning the final 23 sections of the day. Fenner's four point total on his Gas-Gas GT-25 put him comfortably ahead of second place finisher, High Desert Trials Centersponsored Roger Guard. Fenner was very enthusiastic about the event and credited Spaniard Andreu Codina with his success. Codina, the former World Champions.hip Series competitor who is now export manager for Gas-Gas, had visited California in early April and had conducted a trials school "Codina made some changes to my bike that really improved my riding," Fenner Said. "I really liked the trial," Fenner said in praising the event. "It was worth an 6-hour drive." Runner-up Guard, also on a Gas-Gas, cleaned the last 13 sections he rode, but was put out of contention with a flat front tire on the first loop. Mechanical problems resulting from a crash stepped in the way of Webb's attempt to reel in Hamann on the last loop. . '1 had some bad luck. I had a bad crash on section five and blew my clutch out," Webb explained. "I had to come all the way back to the pits to replace my master cylinder. I got behind the . sweepers and I had to take two' fives on the two easiest sections. I thought I was going to make my wheels square blasting down that canyon on the way to section seven. "I don't think it would have effected the results, but it would have made me feel better," a frustrated Webb said. "They (Head and Hamann) were spot on. They couldn't have been any better." Although Head's 3-7-8 loop scores made it appear as if he was fading slightly as the day went on, he didn't agree. "The last lap I felt pretty strong," Head said. "Usually I've gotten a second wind in three lap events on my last lap." Head said a freak five on the third section of the last circuit stopped it from being his best card. Head praised the ar~hitcts of the event. "I thought (section designer) Art (Webster) and (loop router) Lon (Brand) and the guys did a really good job of laying it out." Hamann was less enthusiastic about the event "The loop was hard. I think they should tone it down to get more people riding," Hamann said. "The downhill (between sections six and seven) took 20 minutes to get down it. I was caught in traffic behind a couple of Advanced riders." Hamann explained. "One guy crashed and the other guy was walking his bike down. My arms pumped up. "Today was pretty hard. There were some really big steps." t1' Results: C'SHIP: I. Scott Head (Fan) 18 points; 2.
