Photo by Donn Maeda. m1rn~ We just returned from the year's first National Dual Sport Ride at Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. As ususal, Dave and Carrie Jo Coombs of Racer Productions did us proud, as did all the people who made the ride so great. Dave, Allen and Jeff set up the twoday course to please any type of rider. No matter what their sex, height, age or skill level, there was riding for all. And to increase interest, they included an autocross for the support crew members (wives, morns and dads, and children). Last year, Dave threw in a couple of gas lines, a taste of icing. This year he gave us the whole cake, and boy did we eat it up. This year's ride was breathtaking! Then when you thought all the fun was over, they gathered us together for awards and prizes that were outstanding. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved with the ride. It was the best yet. IN THE WIND ~y Pap_aW_eal-,,--ey_ _ Continued from page 3 and there will be a spaghetti feed on Saturday night. For more information, call 805/238-1240. Frenchman Fenouil (that's right, just the one name, like Cher) recently stopped by our offices to give us the latest info on next year's Paris-Dakar Rally (or more correctly, the Paris-Dakar-Paris, as the rally will return to France in 1994). Fenouil, who organizes the Pharaohs Rally in Egypt, has taken over the ParisDaka( organiza tional chores from the TSO, the Thierry Sabine group that formerly ran the event, and the dates for the rally are set for December 3O-January 17. Fenouil plans to make the rally more accessible to amateurs by dropping the expensive prototype category, banning all pre-running, and reducing the distance between gas stops (so that huge auxiliary fuel tanks will no longer be necessary). Though the rally will still be extremely challenging, we're told it will be more participant friendly. A promotional video will be available shortly; it will explain the intricacies of rally racing. For more information, contact Philippe Danh at Frog Specialties, the American contact for the event, at 310/329-9669.
