Valkenswaard is not one of Parker's
favorite facilities. Last year he almost
failed to qualify, and this year he was
again perilously close to elimination.
The ex-ehampion was buried in the pack
each time, and never made much
progress. His only finish came in moto
one.
Two races in light drizzle and one in
briIliant sunshine provided a showcase
for Albertyn and the local sand experts
to show their skills.
Albertyn led the way in moto one,
but saw Everts come past on lap two
and immediately open up a lead.
Suddenly, at half distance, the South
African was back on Everts.
"I don't think Stefan made a mistake," Albertyn said. "I think I just had
one of those dream laps when everything went right, and in sand you can
make up a lot of ground quickly in those
circumstances."
Everts gradually rebuilt his lead to
the checkered flag, with Moore half a
minute back on Albertyn, but riding
well to defeat Marnicq Bervoets, the
sand specialist who has performed so
heroically for Belgium in the last two
MX des Nations.
Albertyn shot past Schmit on. the
opening lap of moto two, and held a
half-minute lead at one stage before
cruising around the final lap. Everts had
to be content with fourth, his only forward movement coming at the expense
of Evertsen.
In moto three it was Everts' turn to
pass Schmit quickly and disappear into
the distance. A quick calculation
showed that Albertyn needed to finish
second to clinch the overall, and he
immediately began to move forward
from his initial sixth.
"There are still some Dutch and
Belgians who think I can't ride sand,"
said Albertyn. "I don't know what their
problem is. That is my second Dutch GP
win in nine months i"
Does the 125cc title holder feel under
pressure? "No way. I've got the points
and they've got to catch me. I didn't
crumble in 1992, so they'd better not be
waiting for it this year.
