It was a superb effort, and very well done. Even though I was one of those in attendance, I couldn't have covered all of the ground that your reporting staff handled. It makes a fine souvenir ed.i tion. In the following edition's tribute to Jimmy Adamo, I noted that you reported that he was only the second fatality in the 53 runnings of the Daytona 200. I believe he was actually the third, as Cliff Farwell was killed On the backstretch of the old beach-road course in 1953. Regardless, it's still a very impressive safety record when you consider all of the man-miles covered in Daytona's over-half-eentury of racing. Farwell was killed when he struck a spectator who was crossing the track during the race. The spectator also died. We appreciate your kind words regarding our coverage of Daytona events, Bill, but we'll be the first to admit that we didn't cover "all of the racing activities at Daytona." Every year it becomes more difficult to cover the ever-increasing number of races taking place in and around Daytona during Cycle Week. Until we can come up with a way to have our reporters be at two different places at the same time, well... One thing's for certain, we do give it our best shot. . .Editor. You didn't cover speedway When are you going to print your coverage of the first speedway races to take place during Daytona Cycle Week? They were called the Southern Invitationals and took place at the Volusia County Fairgrounds on March 1-2-3. Elliott Long Portland, OR Sorry, we did not cover the speedway races...Editor. Cheers for Team Green I want to publicly thank Team Green technicians Greg Quader and Jeff Chambers for their help a t the Florida Trail Riders Enduro on Sunday, March 7. I wore my back brake down to the metal in the previous Thursday's Alligator Enduro and when I went to replace the pads I noticed the disc was also worn out. On Saturday I called every dealer in central Florida, but no one had a disc in stock. When I got to the enduro on Sunday, not only did Team Green have one, but Greg installed it with new bolts. They did this when they had things to do for their own riders, Larry Roeseler and Ty Davis. Thank you, Kawasaki Team Green, for being there when I needed you. Coy Hopson Brandon, FL Official decision There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding the results of Greg Zitterkopf's disqualification at the Adelanto Gran Prix. To clear up any questions, the following is the decision, as stated in the official minutes, of the AMA District 37 Competition Committee meeting held on March 11: 1. The disqualification of Mr. Zitterkopf in the 250cc race stands. 2. The Desert Vipers M.e. shall issue an apology to Mr. Zitterkopf for improper handling of the disqualification. 3. Mr. Zitterkopf's entry fee for the 500cc race which hr ",as not allowed to compete in shall be .--efunded. Jesse Ellico District 37 Referee Monrovia, CA Godspeed, Jim Off-road enthusiasts in California just lost perhaps the best friend the.y ever had. The readers of Cycle News would recognize him by his alias, I.e. Oearly, or his other alias, Son of Desert Duck. I knew him as Jim Livermore. Jim loved to ride in the desert. All his life, he fought tenaciously to preserve our right to vehicular access of public lands. Jim. and I were appointed to the California OHV Advisory Committee and we were then founding members of the California OHV Recreation Commission. As the commission's first chairman and vice chairman, respectively, Jim and I helped formulate the pblicies that govern the way the Green Sticker Fund is supposed to be spent. Jim donated 12 years of his life to the cause of responsible OHV recreation. In 1989, Jim retired from slate service to spend more time with his church youth program and his wife and three children. He leaves us far too soon, but in the brief time he was here he made our world a much better place. Jim is now riding a perfect dirt bike with a perfect body through the perfect desert of Heaven. Godspeed, Jim. Mike Bishop Sanb Barbara, CA Livermore died in a car accident on Monday, March 22.. .Editor. This is not an advertisement, or is it? I have been reading Cycle News for some time and I enjoy it. But most of the letters you publish concerning the Supercross Series are usually negative. The letter writers talk about poorly conducted intermission shows, smoky stadiums, rude riders, etc. Well, I want to let you know about a positive experience I recently had. Last week I called SuperSports to get a ticket order form for the Charlotte Supercrdss mailed to me. I was told that I had called too late and that the deadline for mail ordering tickets had passed. This did not make me a happy camper. Instead of sending me away unhappy, the gentleman on the phone gave me the number to call to charge my tickets and he offered to send me the bonus items that I would have received through the mail order offer. Unbelievable! I received bonus items. I received the GMC action pit passes and early entry passes. To top it off, I also received some complimentary Mega Moto souvenir supercross cards. By the gentleman taking the time to help me, I will enjoy the event thoroughly and my kids are excited. Thank you, SaperSports and Bret Hart!
