$2700.00 YAMAHA Up front it was Schmit who was chased hard by Herring, Everts, Dutchman Edwin Evertsen, Italian Michele Fanton, Albertyn, Brit Mark Eastwood and Parker. There was no change of position until the last 10 minutes, when Herring pounced and sprinted into the lead. "It was a good pass," admitted Schmit, "[ hope [ can make some passes like that later." Everts also forced his way past Schmit and immediately inherited the lead when Herring fell. "[ caught my footpeg on the side of a rut and [ tipped over," explained Herring. The Honda rider nearly fell into the grips of fourthplace Albertyn, but with a lap to go the Sou th African decided to simply maintain his position, as did Schmit in second. Fanton eventually lost out to Parker in their duel for fifth. "[ sat and watched the guys ahead of me for 25 minutes and learned all their lines," said Everts. "Then Herring fell and I was able to pass Schmit." The "chasers" were still racing hard to the end. Swede Peter Johansson went past Liles on an uphill after the duo had diced with each other for 25 minutes. Once by Liles, Johansson went on to take seventh from Evertsen, and he then held off a charging Moore. "I stalled the first time I caught Johansson in the middle of the race," said Moore. Moto two again began with a firstturn crash, but this time it centered around Belgian Axel Holvoet. "Someone took out my front wheel and I went flying," said Holvoet, who landed between Herring's rear wheel and fender, Herring said, "I didn't get away very well, but I suddenly lost drive. I looked round and there was Holvoet in my rear wheel." Alb<:!rtyn led from start to finish to score the first 250cc moto win of his career. Parker and Nicoll finished a distant second and 'third, respectively, There. was very little passing in the race, as Everts and Schmit rounded out the top five. Albertyn again led from start to finish in the third and final moto, ahead of Schmit, Herring, Everts, Parker, Evertsen and Fanton, At the 20-minute mark, Herring slowed with blistered hands and surrendered third to Everts. Moore failed to complete a lap, due to a failing ignition. Nicoll and Liles both crashed on the first lap and then fell again, just as they got back into the top 15. Bervoets also crashed out for the second successive race. At the finish, it was Albertyn crossing the finish line first, ahead of Schrni t, Everts, Herring and Fanton. Parker settled for sixth.
