eMOTOCROSS ~ Jacob Saylor powered his way to the overall win in the 50cc Modified division. Brown cleans up at Muddy Creek By Barbara and Loren Williams Mike Brown (54) held off Jim Neese (314) in moto one of the 250cc A class. Mike Andrews emerged from semi-retirement and earned the 25+ A class victory. 12 BLOUNIVILLE, TN, MAR 7 record-breaking turnout of 741 riders highlighted the opening round of the 16-round Mega Series at Muddy.Creek Raceway, but one rider stood out above the rest - Mike Brown. Aboard a fleet of Jim's Motorcycle Sales of Johnson City, Tennessee-sponsored Hondas, Brown was the big money winner among the A class riders. He racked up three moto wins plus a second-place finish. Kawasaki Team Green's Jim Neese spoiled Brown's bid for a perfect four-for-four moto score by winning the second 250cc A moto. Brown, Neese and Chad Lough traveled all night to get to the event alter competing in the Camel Supercross at Daytona the previous day. All three made the 125cc class feature at Daytona, though Brown was the only one to crack the top 10. Why thrash yourself driving 12 hours following a grueling day of supercross in the sand to battle the cold weather of Tennessee and 25 other wild-eyed racers on the chance' that you might win a moto? "For the money!" echoed Brown,ยท Neese and Lough. Besides the Mega Series purses, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuk.i and Yamaha offered contingency money. Kevin Walker grabbed the holeshot in the first 125cc A moto. He and Lough ba ttled back and forth before Walker A eventually settled into a comfortable lead. Brown, who was running fourth, was busy looking for a way around Neese and his persistence eventually paid off and he roosted by Neese, taking Shane Templeton with him and relegating Neese to fifth. Once into third, Brown set his sights on Lough, reeled him in, passed him, and soon after did the same to the leader Walker. Lapped traffic soon became a factor, as the A class riders began catching up to the B class riders who were competing on the track at the same time. Brown threaded his way through the B riders without incident, but Walker wasn't as lucky. Walker was matching Brown's every move until he tangled with a "B" rider and crashed. Lough and Templeton both motored around the downed rider before Walker could recover. Shortly thereafter, Templeton bobbled, which also caused Walker to slow just enough to allow Neese to pass both riders and take sole control of third. By the time Templeton had recovered, Walker had moved into fourth, while Stevie Childress closed in on and then passed Templeton to take over fifth. At the finish, it was Brown taking the win ahead of Lough, Neese, Walker and Childress.
