But Lawson was forced out of the race with two laps to go when he picked up a rope in his back wheel and lost his rear braking system. "I thought that my bike was seizing but when I looked down I saw the rope in my wheel," said Lawson. "It heated up my rear brake. They finally got so hot the brakes seized up. It even fried my clutch." Ocala's own Jon Ortner, was the high-finisher in the Vet A group after dueling with Ohio's Tim Shephard all day long.
