(Left) Two-time World Champion Trampas Parker will reunite with Farioli KTM in pursuit of his third title. (Above) Bobby Moore hopes to win his first World Championship aboard a Bieffe Suzuki (Below) Edwin Evertsen is Kawasaki's brightest hope. Kawasaki is the only Japanese marque to have never won a World Championship. Teams be treated as the team's number two rider, despite finishing last season in the runner-up position. However, Moore is much more likely than Healey to com!l to terms with the treatment, as he was in the same position last year on Michelle Rinaldi's Chesterfield Yamaha team. Everts and Moore's chances will both be improved by the fact that the Suzuki engineers have been hard at work closing the technical advantage that was last year enjoyed by Yamaha. However, that mechanical edge during the decisive stage of the '92 title chase was so great that Yamaha's top men, American Donny Schmit and Italian Alessandro Puzar, will once again be hard to beat. Last year, however, Puzar seemed to lose some of his energetic will to win, and plans to switch to road racing could easily affect his mQtocross form as adversely as they did Frenchman Jean-Michel Bayle. Schmit is once again the man to beat, as only a broken thumb has prevented him from winning three consecutive World Championship titles. His track record in the GPs is phenomenal; 25 moto wins and 11 overall victories in 23 races is a tally which speaks for itself. Kawasaki is the one Japanese factory never to have won an off-road World Championship, but Edwin Evertsen may be the man to change that; the Dutchman has yet to actually win a GP, but he was runner-up in each of the last four rounds last year as he came storming through to prevent a Yamaha sweep of the top three positions. In addition to class newcomers Albertyn and Nicoll, Honda's third hope for honor lies in Rob Herring. The Brit displayed awesome speed in.last year's GPs, but was only able to secure the number-six plate. Herring is quickly running out of lime to prove that he can turn speed into titles at the international level. The "European" challenge comes from KIM, with the return of American Trampas Parker. The Austrian factory and the Italian technicians employed by Arnaldo Farioli have proved often enough th!t they can build very powerful engines, and the two-lime champion undoubtedly possesses the speed and aggression on' the track to run near the front. In the end, rugged determination and dedication are likely to be the deciding factors, and for that reason Schmit, Parker, Albertyn and Nicoll must be favorites against the graceful skills of Everts, Moore and Evertsen. The flamboyant Puzar, Herring and Liles will lurk in the background, all with a (N chance at success.
