The fairing does a fine job keeping the wind blast off the rider; the windshield is quite taU. Even the rear view mirrors are placed well and do a good job letting the rider know what's going on behind him. Instrumentation is first-rate. The panel fea tures all the usual information, including two tripometers, a clock and a fuel gauge. All of the readouts are analogue, except for a few warning lights. The front tum signals are built into the fairing to minimize wind resistance. A small.storage compartment is incorporated into the top of the gas tank and is great for holding change, maps, wallets, etc. There's also a small area underneath the locking seat. Back to reality Even with the Omega chassis, electronic fuel injection, anti-lock braking system, futuristic styling and beautiful red paint, it's hard to overlook the nearly $13,000 price tag of the GTS1000A. One dealer we talked to said he had refused a GTS, fearing that the hefty price tag would scare potential buyers away. But after rolling off more than 200 miles on the odometer, we feel it's worth the price if you have a spare 13 grand burning a hole in your pocket. Don't be surprised if five years from now, every sport, sport-touring and touring motorcycle has an Omega-type suspension de ign. No less an authority than three-time World Champion Wayne Rainey has gone on record as saying, "It's the future." We agree. It's definitely the hottest thing since the Monoshock. Well done, Yamaha.
