PRE-ENTRY Ricky Fernandez were fourth and fifth overall, respectively. Like the first moto, Wachalec and Berriere finished second and third in the 500cc Pro class and earned the same overall finishes. Donn Maeda easily won the first 250cc Novice moto ahead of Greg Longie and Dave Galland, but he had a tougher time in moto two. Maeda went over the bars at the start of the second race and got back into the race dead last and well behind the field. Galland twisted the throttle on his Kawasaki and assumed the early lead, but succumbed to the pressure of Longie. Meanwhile, Maeda began to pick off riders one by one and moved into fourth by the completion of lap Jhree. Juan Magana surrendered third to Maeda on the next lap. By the time the white flag came out, Maeda had reeled in Galland and Longie, and began to pressure the lead duo. The three riders were extremely close as they received the white flag, and Maeda snuck past Galland a few turns later. Galland dug deep and swooped back past Maeda, but had no answer for another pass by Maeda in the next turn. Once into second, Maeda reeled in Longie and began to push him, but time ran ou t. Longie scored the win inches ahead of Maeda, but Maeda's 1-2 scores edged Longie's 3-2. Galland was third overall with his 2-3 finishes. Magana and Ken Palfenier rounded out the top five. Bob Leppold decimated the competition in the Vet class with a double-moto sweep. Leppold, better known as a cameraman for the Motoworld TV show, raced National Vet Champion Rex Staten's Honda CR250. Leppold led Sam Stahl across the finish line in both motos, while Mike Moore turned in a pair of thirds for third overall. Jerry Ventura and Dan Black traded places in each moto, with Ventura coming out on top for fourth. Tim Ross won both motos in the 500cc Novice class with ease, while Jason Bicknell finished second each time out for second overall. Third went to Bill Gifford, ahead of Scott La Rosh and Teo Sanchez. At the end of the day, racers were each given a free Tecate beer and an event T-shirt. The class winners received plaques, while the series class winners were awarded special hand made trophies, compliments of Tecate Beer. c:N RESULTS 250 /'Iov: I. Donn Maeda (Han); 2.
