Garnett grabs Silver State Motocross win B y J oan Tiearne y CARSON CIlI', NV, MAY 29 Steve Garnett dominated both mows of On Trac EvenlS' Friday night motocross ope ne r, whi ch featured a su pe rcros s-slyle tra ck. In th e Pro class , a small but explosive pa ck charged to the first turn with Honda rid er Brian Elder takin g th e lead. Eld er was returning to his home track after ta king a seaso n orc, and expe rienced a tremendous crash over the big doubles, but was 'abl e to remount. Snowboard cha m p io n , Sh awn Palmer was now in first p lace, followed by Steve Garnett, Steve Hawkms and Eld er. They set a blazing pa ce bu t in th e final tum of the last lap , Palmer, stu ck in lapped traffic, went wide and ha nded the lead a nd th e first moto win to Garnett. In the second mOlo, it was Palmer , Garneu, Hawkins and Elder lead ing ou t of the ga te, On the second la p howev er, the battle ended when Pa lm er drifled wid e and crashed, ending his race. Hawkins followed suit in th e same section of th e tra ck, leaving Garnett and Elder to race th e remaining six laps. Garneu was unstoppable with another flawless mot a to take th e I-I win . . In th e 250cc J unio r class , Kawasaki -rider Darin Ernst grabbed the ho lesho t with J oey Sch ultz on his back wh eel throughout the en tire race. Schultz mad e several anempts to pa ss o n the tight track, but Ernst rode well and was in contro l as he took the ch eckered nag. In the seco nd moto, Sch ultz had a ga me plan, blasting into second ou t of the first turn and taking over th e lead off th e big step-d own jump. R oach REDDICK, FL, MAY10 Over 300 rid ers showed u p to compete a t th e eig hth round of the Florida Mot ocr oss Club Series , held a t Motocross of Mari on County, and Chris Brown scored the win in the highly com pe titive 125cc A cla ss. The race , held on Mother's Day, was held for the ben efeit of th e Muscular Dystrophy Associ a ti on . Team Yamaha's Dam on Bradshaw was in a ttendan ce, as was Ja cksonville MDA represent at ive Ashley Duchel. A rarn e an d auc tion were held, and th e pr oceed s were don at ed to th e MDA. Over $2500 was raised. The first moW saw Gary Paul get the ' holeshot with Jeff Lam pe, Bro wn, T ravis Blackburn, J.D. Vanglider an d Timmy Ferry following. Ferr y pa ssed Van gil der qu ickly for fift h place, Paul fell in the wh oo p section and Brown shot by Lampe to take over th e lead. Blackburn moved to third, w hi le Paul fell all th e wa y back to sixth. O n th e next lap , Bla ckburn slid o u t aft er th e fin is h line tab letop but recovered befor e anyo ne pass ed h im a nd pas sed Lampe in a berm to ta ke back second. Meanwhi le, Ferry was on (he move , passin g Lam pe over a double jump, but luck wasn 't with Ferry as hi s mot or develo ped low end problems and he had to p ull out of the race. Paul tired to retake th e lead. but Brow n was so far o ut in front that nobody co u ld catch him. At the chec kered flag it was Brown, Blackburn, Lam pe, Paul , a nd Van glider. In mow two, al1 riders kn ew th ere was a $1000 purse. Paul nailed th e ho leshot with Ferry, Lampe, Brown, Blackburn and Van g lider in to w. On the first lap , Bro wn pas sed Lampe for th ird on th e second lap , Brown slid out, lell ing both Lam pe and Blackburn by and end ing up fifth . Dur ing the exciteme nt Paul an d Ferr y were doing th eir best to put di stan ce betwttn them selves and th e rest pC the pack. Meanwhile, Chris Nash , Ken Biueroff a nd Jason O man son diced it o ut for second pla ce for lap after lap of exci ting racing . Bitt eroff held o n to finish second, but had fini shed ninth in hi s fin al rnot o so o nly took third overall. In the first 125cc Intermedia te rnoto, fans siood and ooohed as R.C. Bennett went do wn hard o n the backs tretch across from th e finish line, to take him ou tof the race. Bowman burns up Roebling RR B y Bob Applegate FAULKVILLE, GA, MAY 23-24 Sevent een-year -old Jamie Bowman co nti n ued to reign as King of Roeblin g Road Raceway by winning all five of the races he ent ered . in thi s ro und of AMAlCCS racing, The Delray Beach high school student kicked off the week end by puuing his strong-ru nni ng Yamaha/H onda Mar ine of West Pa lm Beachsponsored TZ25 0 out in front of both of Sa turday 's Solo Endurance 50 Milers. Bowman then donated hi s winnings to the fund to rai se money for injured racer Mike Harth's hospital bills. The Lightweighl GP race was a nother SlOry as we are seeing a resurgence of 250 raci ng both onthe pro and club level. Bowman led a string of to u~h TZs acro ss the lin e with Matt Jungk laus, MIchael Vadney, Nea l Kitson and Jam es William s rounding o ut the top five. Bowm an ro unded o ut h is winn in g weekend by sprinting a TZ25 0 down to some 1:17s to win th e $1000 U nlimi ted GP 12-lap fin al. T he rea l race rag ed bac k th rough fifth spot, with Eisenacher holding second whi le Co bb, Pruitt and Co x debated th ird. Ken Pruitt pushed hi s FZR600 hard to win Hea vyweigh t Supersport over a 750-mounted grid and then used the same bike to p ick up two more victo ries in Mid d leweight Su perbike and Supersport.
