"I knew if I showed him th e fro nt wheel

Degano sq ua red th e tu rn afte r a tabletop
jump and p lanted h is fro nt wheel in fro n t
o f Cortevill e, who bobbled and almost went
do wn. The door was wide open for Dega no
as he sli p ped into the lead. Degano rod e with
a ven gence for th e remainder of the race , and
scored the mo ta a nd overall wi n. Co rtevi lle
held o rr a last-lap charge from Yalo n to secure
second.
Dall as Coulter breezed. to the first mot a win
in the 250cc Beginner cla ss. Don Cleve land
rod e solidly in second for most o f th e molO,
top pin g Matt Simanski and J ohn Valko.
Co ulter p ulled the second mo lO hol eshot
bu t pu t h is front tire o ver the berm and wenl
down. Cleveland p icked up the lead and
smo ked away for th e win. Pete Shank rode
firml y in second for most o f th e moto and
resisted a last-lap challen ge from Coulter, who
made a brillant charge from last to thinl. Ma tt
Sima nski was runni ng th ird for much o f th e
race , b u t washed o u t lhe front end and cra shed
back lo fifth .

Mike R u ffner and David Borris. Wi thin the
first half la p, Goebel had tak en over the lead.
Bellinger held seco nd as Borris went to work
on Ru Hner. Bellinger fell victim to th e tra ck
co nd itio ns and opened th e door for Ko hler
to di ce with Goebel. Borris mo tored into third
with Bellinger in fourth. Goebl e held orr the
a ttempts of Koh ler u ntil th e ch eckered flag.
Borris followed in third, a head of Bellinger
and R u ffn er ,
Mo to two wa s a ll Goebel, as he pos ted a
wire-to-wire win. Bellinger held second from
sta rt to finish, but was o f no threat to Goebel
as th e Yamaha-m ounted rider held a nearly
15-second lead by th e rnoto's end.
The real baule wa s heating u p for third.
Mike H uperu chased th e two front-runners
into tum o ne with J im Ma rtinis and Borr is
o n his rear wh eel. Borri s dispensed o f Martinis
and set his sig hts o n Huperu. Ko h ler mo tored
into the top five from h is midpack start and
passed Marti nis o n lap three. With the white
flag out, both Borris and Kohler sq ueaked pa st
