Royal Mountain Motocross action saw Tom Ri ce (238) rule the Senior Expert class.

ga te four. The 35-year-o ld northern California
native held a nar row edge into the first bend,
but by the tim e he came off (urn two , was
joined by Brant a nd Bobb y Schwartz. It was
three abreast act io n as the riders jocke yed for
th e lead down the back ch u te. Faria ma nalled
to fend off Brant and Sch wam, and carr ied
a one-Ienllth lead into the third turn.
Brant, nding with his front tir e o n th e ins ide
line, disposed of Schw artz as th ey came off
tum two on the second circu it . He immediatel y set his sigh ts on the lead er and pulled
to his rear tir e, looking for an o pen ing that
never sh owed. When th e chec kered ca me o ut.
Faria was still a bike leng th in front of hi s
23 year-old teammate.
Division One roo kie Gr elt Appelman led
the Handicap ma in for th e ftrst three circu its
from the short yardage. but at th e end of the
third la p , young J oh n Aden go t i nside
Appelman and took over the lead . Aden , 19,
had lillie chance to build a lead . As soon as
he went by Appelman, Brant did the sa me.
Brant ca me close to Aden, but th e teenage
sensation did not wilt. On th e next-to-last lap,
he moved away o n his KAAT Equipment

Jim's T ow ing J awa, and scored a four length
victory .

was using the o u tside lin e in an attempt to
ta ke the lead . Sch wa rtz drifted wide co mi ng
out of turn two. effectively blocking the
charg ing Faria, wh o had 10 back off 10 avoid
hilling the front-runner. Lu cero used a decent
sta rti ng spo t, co mbined with a good driv e o n
the fast line at th e po le, lO pu ll even with
Sch wartz as th e two screa med down th e back
stra igh t. The crowd of 3029 spectator s were
in a frenzy as the two veteran riders stayed ,
side by side for th e first two-and-a-half lapsl
Lucero held th e in side th rou gh out tn e event
a nd kept th e lead a ll th e way to the chec kered
flag.

Bran t and Faria both started o n th e 50 yard
lin e, behind Rob Pfetzing and Chris Man ch ester o n the 40. " j am m in" Jeff Jon es ' a nd
Cha rlie "T he Edge" Venegas started o n th e
30 and j e" e O ch oa and Gr eg App leman were
o n the 20 yar d mark er. Appleman was th e first
r ider to reach ' th e turn , but co uld no t keep
the machine head ed stra igh t o ut of turn two
and per form ed a " park" , effectively block in g
lines of the riders directl y behind him. Brant
was far eno ug h back to rind a line throu gh
the cl uster, and was im media tely propell ed
to th e fron t of th e pa ck, enjoying a safe lead
a ll the way to the fini sh line.

Jason McCormick swept five In termediate
classes by winning 10 motos at the AMA
Northwe st Am ateur Regional Final Qualifier
for Loretta Lynn's, held at Clark s Branch MX

MOIO on e in the com bined 125cc B Stock
and 125cc Stock 12-15 year-old classes saw
McConnick gate perfectly. Justi n Kirkes, John
Williams III and Sha wn Highland foll owed
in hot pursuit. Forrest T ra nsue, wh o started
in sixth. moved by Ar ic Mu se early on. Sh ortly
aft er passing H ighland, he also moved by a
downed Kirkes halfway into lap o ne and
scoo ted into third pl ace.
Heading into lap two, William s went by
Highland and Tran sue.
Up front. McCorm ick was turning in on e
minute 38 second lap tim es which was within
o ne second of the Expert class tim es. McCormick 's lead stretched to over 15 seconds by
the moto's end. T he ord er behind him stayed
the same to the checkers , with the exception
of Grant gett ing by a downed Roe o n lap six.
MOlD two was another McCormick runaway. After pulling the holesh ot , McCormick
led Highla nd , Williams, Bleckov a nd Kirkes,
on lap two. Transue mad e a perfect in sid eo utside move o n Kirkes at th e bo tto m of th e
hill for fifth, but Kirk es stTUck back over th e
tabl etop.
On lap three, Kirk es and Transue motor ed
by Bleckov and set out to ca tch Williams. At
mid-moto, McConnick slid o ut in a rilththander and scurried up to keep his posiuon.
Devin Roe gradually turned up the pace and
made a pass on Bleckov . .
On the fina l lap, Kirkes returned the pass
at the bouorn of the hill , and held th e positio n
to th e chec kers. The top five never cha nged
a fter th e ha lfway fla gs, end ing up with
McCormick holding on to a 10 second lead.
