Even though most o f the c lasses had a fu ll co m p lemen t of riders, two o r th e most hot.ly co ntes ted d ivisio n s, th e 200cc a nd Pr o-Am clas ses, fielded on ly two rid ers each. But as they say, it o n ly lak es two to tango. In the 200cc clas s, for mer Macomb resid ent a n d clu b member Steve Mason was determ ined to win. U n fort u na tely, he fini shed seco nd . Despite a ttem p ts to push his punched-out 175 Ya maha " Ero no- racer" hard into the turns. he was sim p ly o u t-mo to red by the Can-Ampower ed Hat trac ker o f Chad Byers on the stra ig h ts. Bond looked as if he was going to be the winner o f Lheseco nd ma lO, but G'uLer Gurnee str uck with a last-la p dash and sto le th e first ·place honors. Gurnee was a DNF in th e fir st oUling, but was ab le to ride Lhe second malO with borrowed ignition componen ts. In 125cc Pro action, Steven Ernest got lhe ho leshot, followed by Bond, Dickson, a nd Craig Mason. Mason set his sights on Dickson, but Dickso n b locked him a nd Mason cras h ed hard. Mark Pilli o n and Alex Black well ca ugh t a nd passed Ern est. The fin ishing o rder was Bond, Dickson and Pill ion , wh ile a lasl-lap pass by Gurnee put him into rourth. Bob Walton grabbed th e h ol eshot in m OlD two , but within three turns Gurnee a nd Mason paSSl-d him and pulled awa y fro m lh e resl o f the pack. Bear . who finished fift h in th e first 250cc Expert malO, salvaged a seco n d o vera ll with th e second mota wi n. H e was nudged from t.he ove rall class win by Ron Pot em ski who was third in the final molO a nd won the second ma lO. Two da ys o f rain a nd overcast skies had left track co nd itio ns uncertain at best. The slippery track caused Bob Sorens on lD go down co m in g out of th e starting ga te i n the first Senior Expert moto. This allowed Dave WolfskilllO take th e lead a nd th e moto win. Sorenson had to deal with being run ov~r by the rest of th e EXperl cla ss as well as the Senior Amaleurs who started on a splil gat e with the Experts. As a resuh he finished an uncharacteristic eig hth in th e mota and fifth o vera ll. Sorenson had bener lu ck in lh e25·Plusclass puning together fifth and fir st place finishes til th e motos for seco nd overa ll. First overall in th e cla ss went to Brad Stepp who rode well all da y. Stepp had first and lhird place finishes in th e 25 Plus class a nd lh e Open Experl class.
