Reigning 540cc Nationa l Champion Tim Frazier sai led through the air and kic ke d off his title defense with a convincing win at the Iron Horsemen National.
Two smaller hi lls actually made up the run, and the faste r, aggressive riders
jum ped from the first to the second. The record-setting crowd loved it.

record crowd turned out to witness the AMA Nati onal Championship HiIlclimb Series opener,
and were tr eated to a s how fu ll of
excitement a nd s urpr ise at th e p ictur esque, tree-lined site. With a burst of
power and skill, Tim Frazier muscled
his way up the hill and topped the timing lights fast enough to earn the win in
the 540cc class. Frazier's win extends
his win streak to 11, as he posted a n
unblemished season of 10 wins in 1991.
Also emerging on top of his class was
60-year-old veteran hillclimber Charlie
Casey, who stood above the rest of the
800cc class at the day's end. Casey conquered the hill in 3.43 seconds, besting

and arguably the hardest of the season to run. From zero to 30 feet , the
hill forms a steep jump, flatten ing out
wit h a second hill at about 90 feet. As

the day in the 540cc class, explained it,
the object is to jum p the first hill, clear
the secon d , a n d come d own as
smooth and parallel to the hill as possible. Throughout the da y, ride rs bad
