RA Racing from Can ada made a big mov e in the second ho ur and climbed all th e way u p to fourt h p lace, less than a minute behind DAK Racin g. Motion Systems ' run in the front of the field ended wh en they cra shed thei r Honda CBR900. Another red flag in the third h our bunch ed u p the top three teams. T his time the delay was 45 minu tes after 129 Racing lost a motor and inad-. verten tly oiled down a good portio n of the track. After the seco nd resta rt it was all Team Suzuki. H all and Marti n pulled out a two-lap lead over Mo tosports Racing during the fourth an d fifth h ours. In the last hour, Mo tosports had a slo w pi t stop an d T eam Suzuk i ended up winnin g by five laps or nine miles. Martin set the fastest time of the day wi th a la p of 1:15.01 on the Valvol in e Suzuki. Martin said the fast time was mor e lu ck th an an yth in g else. " With 50 bikes ou t there, it's very rare that you ever get a clear lap. I ha ppened to get a ni ce clean lap.an d la id down a good time. For the most pa rt , Kurt a nd I were lapping a t the same speed." DAK's fine da y in th e top three came to an end during th e fourth hou r. T he team 's Suzuki began to make noi ses that indicat ed a failing rod beari ng, and the team pulled ou t. Virginia Breeze Racing is a new team . wh ose members have years of endu ra nce racing experience. Several of the members hav e ra ced for p ast top WERA teams incl uding Kayo Racing, Ge nesis Racin g and T he Speed Boys. T hose years of experience showed as Virgin ia Breeze o ptim ized the time between fue l sto ps. "We were ru nning o n fu mes at th e en d of the race," said team owner T aylor Massey. Virginia Breeze inherited third p lace la te in the race when RA Racing cras hed wi th less than 20 mi nutes left in the contes t. Force Racing battled with tire wear early in the race which kept them from battling for the lead. Durin g the race , Force's crew made adju stments to the Yamaha's suspension and the tire wear lessened. Force easily won the Heavyweigh t Prod uctio n class, but had to battle to the wire with T eam Suzuki GSXR600 for fourth overa ll. With three mi n ut es to go in th e race , Force Racing's Rick Pagniano d ug in and chased down Team Suzuki 600's J acks, using the power of the For ce Yamaha FZR IOOO to hold off J acks by less than a second at the fin ish line. It was the fo urth stra igh t Heavyweight Production class win for For ce Racing with Pagnian o, Ron Crum and Mark McDaniels.
