Summers cont inued to race away from everyo ne and whe n the white flag ca me ou t after nine laps he was nearl y th ree m in utes ahead of Plessinger, who ad m itted tha t he knew High Point to be Summers' kind of track. "There are just certain tracks where 1 kn ow that 1 have no chance of keepi ng up with h im," said Plessinger, " and this is one of them. I' m just happy to ta ke home second place po ints and stay close to him in the sta ndings ." Plessin ger did fini sh second to Summers and rem ains four poin ts shy o f th e top spo t in the GNCC rankings, 99 points to 95. Third overall turned o u t to be Conner. " I reall y charged hard in the middle of the race," said Conner, wh o DNF th e previous round. "After Andrews dropped out 1 got away from Doug Blackw ell and prett y mu ch fin ished all a lo ne." Conner was almost four minutes behind Plessinger at th e checkered flag and three minutes ah ead of fourth,p lace Blackw ell. Roach rounded out the top five overa ll, a season -best fin ish for th e 29 -year-old P ro class com petitor. The top non-Pro class rider in the overa ll tall y was 200cc A class winner Davey Coombs, who finished seventh overa ll aboard a Fox/Boyesen/Scottl Wiseco/Ka yo/Cernic's-backed Suzuki RM125 . Throughout th e day Coombs ba ttled with Shane Lawson. " I' ve never been this tir ed in my life," said Lawson, a n 18-year-oId Pennsylvanian who is backed b y Yokoham a , Fox, Scott, EK , ProCircuit, SND and Shoei. " I felt really good at the beginning and my dad told me 1 was up'to fifth overall on adj us ted time, but these woods gu ys just keep going and going. I bent the rear brake pedal back la te in the race and had to hold on down these hills without it." Duane Conner fell at the star t but ch arged back to fin ish third. Lawson fini shed 11th overa ll while th ird- p lace 200 cc A rider Robert T ominello earned 16th overa ll on his BT Ra cing/Yokohama-backed Kawa• saki KX125. The older Coombs brother, Tim, led the 250cc A cla ss in the early going but was forced ou t on the fourth lap with an arm inj ury. Gen e Onail took o ver and racked up hi s fourth clas s win in' five races. The Gearl AGV I W D 401 Maier/Smith-backed Onail was followed at the chec kered flag by Virgin ia 's Dwain Miller and West Virginian Duan e Sprouse. Onail, wh o was 10th overall, was th e o n ly 250 A rid er to break the top 20. Dave Santi pi cked up his first Open A class win of the series aboard a L oj ak's /MSR/PJ I/ Sm ith /M a ier l WD40/RK-support ed Ya m a ha WR500. Santi narrowly edged Ro n Palermo in a day-long battle that carried th e two Pennsylvanians io 19th and 20th overall. Lineman Cycle 's J ohn Vin cent was three minutes off th e lead pace but still scored thi rd in the class. The High Point track is set in the hills of the Holbert famil y farm, so it was only fitting th at a pair o f H olberts would emerge victori ou s. Steve Holbert won th e Four-Stroke A cla ss by registering a career-best 18th overa ll. Bob Sloan was second overall with Plessinger finished second and is four points behind Su mmers in the sta n di ngs. Open A class winner Dave Santi (28) went wide to p ass Dave Dudash. Wor ld of Wheels rider Tracy Warrington third . Mike H olbert, Steve's co usin, won the Vet B class for the second week in a row , beating ou t fellow Yamaha rider Greg Rzeplinski for the win. KK Cycl e Supply/Tsubaki/PS II MSR-back ed Tim Sh ephard won hi s third stra ig h t Vet A class ra ce and rose up into th e 12th o verall position in the process. J eff Murgel ran second with Cumberland Kawasaki 's Keith ' Rodgers fini sh in g third. In O pen B actio n GearlSideWinderl PJI rider Shawn Brell emerged victorious for th e fourth time in 1992.
