In the 50cc class, j err od Whipple won his
first rnot o of th e mo rni ng session, bu t in th e
final, ran into the back of Cory McDermi tt
and crashed. Whippl e got up dead last and
his dad had to adjust the throt tle, which was
stuck wide open . Whipple remou nted and for
eight laps locked the throttl e on full and pu t
on a char!;e to wards the fro nt, Whip!,le
po werslid hIS Italjet Zinger arou nd the outside
com ers, rolled thro ugh the whoops an d made
his own lines out and aroun d the other 16
racers. By the white flag Whipple caught up
to McDermitt, and passed him Just before the
flagman . Whippl ed scored a ha rd-earned win ,
wh ile a surp rised McDerm itt settled for
second.
