Kawasaki o n the brutaly ro ugh track tha t had

to rain. Swien was o n the ga s but Prar io was
exceptionally smooth th ro ugh th e deep ruts
th at were developing an d sna ked by for th e
lead. Swien held to ug h for second, wi th
Brin egar holdi ng thi rd until a major bobbl e
sen t him reeling back to an even tua l ni nth

Fairgro unds . Nelson started fift h on the
single-file inverted start and took the lea d for
good on lap 14 of th e 20 lap race. Following
Nelso n into the winners circle were Rodney
Smith and Da nny Paladino. Rounding o u t
the top five were Ru sty Holland and J osh
Boyki n.
Wh en the sta r ter threw th e fla g, Nicola us
je tted o u t of the fir st turn wi th a h u ge lead .
For the first few laps th e rid ers stayed in
th e startin g order , but Sm i th mo ved u p to
sixth by la p four. On la p six ; Chris Ward '
los t co n tro l a nd ca used Danny Pal ad ino LO
loose ground on the leaders. At the halfway
point. Nicola us still held o nto the lead,
followed by Boy kin a nd Nelson in ' second
a nd third. respect ivel y. O n the ne x t lap , bot h
Ne lso n a nd Smi th moved aro und Boykin ,
dr o ppin g him to fourth. O n th e nex t la p ,

Boykin's slot.
On th e 13th lap , Nico la us star ted to slow
wi th mechanica l pro blems and Nelson flew
into the lead . Nicol a us wou ld event ua lly dr op
back to finish ninth.

Meanwhile, Nelson opened it up, realizi ng
th at Smit h now had a clear sho t at him .
Pal ad in o, was clos ing on both Nelson and
Smi th . With three laps to go , Smith closed
to withi n five bike len gths of the lead er, but
Nelson was not going to gi ve in. Nelson held
th e pace to the chec kered flag and scored th e
win with Smith second a nd Palad ino third.

Neese soars at Top Gun MX

turned in do uble mota wins for the overall
victory in th e 125cc A class at T op Gun MX.
Neese's win a t round six of th e Carolina
Spring helped to add points to hi s series point
lead . Neese lead s th e 125cc A cla ss and also
holds down th e top spo t in the 250cc A cla ss.
J im Neese shot out of th e ga te with the
holesho t in th e first 125cc A class moto with
Cha d Lo ugh a nd H ank Moree on his tai l. J im
Ch ester was tryi ng everything he could to pa ss
Moree. Moree fad ed off the pa ce with a knee
inj ury . Neese couldn't sha ke Lo ugh , and
Chester mad e it a three-way battle for the lead.
Neese was able to ho ld everybody back to ta ke
th e win , while Ches ter displaced Lough for
seco nd an d McElroy fin ished fourth a head of
Anthony Paggio.
Neese . was o ut fro nt aga in at th e start of
th e seco nd mota and engaged in a heated bat tle
with Chester . The two rioers fought back and
forth throug hout th e entire mo to . T odd
Bennick watched from a close third for most
of the race, but co uld not get into th e battle
fo r the lead . Neese wo n th e figh t and scor ed
the mete win over Ch ester. Bennick was ab le
to hold off McElro y for th ird, and Paggio
again rounded out th e top five.
The 50cc Pee Wee class provided some
excellen t racing act io n. White Magic rider
Zach R u tledge pa ired u p with Mich ael La ws
to do battl e in both motos. The two tra ded
the first position several times until Rutledge
had problems and all owed La ws to squeak
pas t for the firs t mota win. J oshua McClure
crossed the line in third a head of Joh na tha n
Benn ick and Micha el Willis.
The second mo to again pro vid ed tigh t
racin g, as the two wen t a t i t too th and nail.
Rutledge scored the lead and was on h is way
to th e finis h whe n he cras hed o n th e la st lap
an d Laws again made the best of it by scori ng
the mo to win . Rutledge pi cked himself up
and was able to rema in in second. Bennick
picked it up one and finished third a hea d of
Chris Lowery, while J osh Payne ro unded out
the top five.
Da nny Ha yn es looked to have both mo tos
of th e Schoolboy cla ss in the bag, but was
unabl e to stop Rich ie Honan from scori ng
th e overa ll. Haynes holesho t and led bo th
mo tos int o th e ha lfway r.oint, but cras hed o ut
both times. H on a n easily sco red mo ta wins .
Haynes regro uped in both rno tos to finis h
second, a nd Mitch ell Hodges' finishes netted
him third overall.
