" Idio ts ran into me and pushed me out (of the first tum)," sai d Sta nton. Both Kiedrowsk i and Brad sh aw passed T ichenor early on lap two and set up their battle for the lead whi ch carr ied them far ahea d of the pa ck. Tichen or was al so soon passed by La Rocco, Ma tiasevich and McG rath, in th at o rder. Bradshaw never fell more than a second beh ind Kied ro wski , bu t couldn't find a p lace to pass until lap 16. "I was tryi ng to pass Kiedro wski the whole time ," said Bradshaw . " I was h oping to use lap pers to my advantage and when he made a couple of mistakes I had to ma ke my move ." " I never reall y saw Bra dshaw beh in d me, I was concentra ting o n ri ding ," said Kiedrowski. " We go t in to la ppers and I was lookin g for a differen t line to get arou nd them and that's wh en he go t me." Brad sh aw was ab le to get through the lappers quicker than Kiedr owski, and in th at time he built a small lead that he held to the finish. Throughout the race La Rocco was far behi nd in third, although at o ne point he fell when he hooked his front brake lever o n a ha y bale. Bayle, wh o had methodically worked h is wa y throug h the pa ck, go t close to LaRocco but the n backed off late in the race after he almost cras hed and fin ished fo urth. Ma tiasevich had McG rath in h is tracks for mo st of the main bu t stayed in front to take sixth , wh ile Stant on got by T ichenor on lap 14 and finis hed a distant seven th. " O nce I got through th e slower riders it was over, they were go ne ," said Stanton. T ichenor hung o n to eig hth , Emig was ninth and Craig was clo se behind to round out the to p 10. In th e 125cc class, Swink and Lusk won their respective heats, and at the sta rt of the ma in Sw i n k got th e ho leshot a n d qui ckl y left J u ni o r Jackson beh ind in second. By th e tim e Lusk passed J ackson o n lap three, Swink had a four-s econd advantage. Lusk quickly cu t tha t margi n in ha lf, but it took h im severa l mor e laps to reach Swink's rea r fender wh ile J ackson began to slide bac k to 11th . Lusk began challe nging Swink on lap II , but it wasn 't until the 14th circu i t tha t he fou nd hi s way to the front, Swink co uld've p layed it safe and settled for second and th e championship, but he quickly reta il iated. " I had been riding hard , but not to the point wh ere I was o ut of control ," said Swink. Lusk mad e ano the r try on the last lap bu t a mistake ga ve Swink the sma ll cushion he needed to take the win. "I planned a spot for a last-ditch move, bu t I spu n o ut on th e last lap," said Lusk, wh o fin ished ri ght behind Swi nk and rode a victory lap alongside th e winner at Swink's su ggestion. " H e rode a good race," said Swink. " H e's young and needs the recogn ition, and it 's good for Suzuki. " Button, who had to qualify for the main by winning th e LC Q. didn 't reach th ird until lap 10 and that's where he stayed to the finish. " I take my hat off to Swink, he rode excellently all year," said Button on the podium, although h e looked disappoint ed th at he was eli mi na ted fro m the title. J eff Dement fin ish ed fourt h just ahead of H en ry and Brown, both of whom went down together on th e first lap. aI Results SATUJU)AY 250 HEAT t : 1.
