Ron Dobbs (260) topped the Ove r-25 year-old class at Low County Motocross. RIDGECREST, CA. FEB. 8-9 The promise of two da ys of dual sport fun in the desert near R idgeerest drew 120 riders to this year' s H i Desert250 Dual Sport Rid e. Organized by California T ra il Rides, th e event featu red a 135-m iJe loop through th e Teagle Wash ridi ng area o n Saturday and a l.50-mile excu rsio n through the mountains of the Seq uoia Nati onal For est o n Sunday. H eavy ra in for two days befor e the event left the deser t loop du st free with perfect trac tio n for most of the day, but made a route ch a nge necessary to avoid a saturated dry lake near the Pi nnacles. Ron J on es of Tennessee and local aa: Ro n Dobb s matched wheels. taking a win each in the Plus 30 A and Plus 25 A cla sses. respective ly. Riders from a six-sta te area were on hand for th e AMA District 29 points-paying event. Dobbs put his Jenks Racing-baded Honda out fro nt at the start of the opening Plus 30 A moto wh ile Jones got away in mth position. Near the end of the moto, Jones had moved into second spot to challen~ Dobbs. Dobb s held for the win, barely a bd,e length ahead of Jones. Jones showed the way at the start of moto two with Dobbs close behind. With three laps rrmaining in the lO·m inute.plus.two--lap moto, Dobbs made hi s move and lau nched himself past Jones over a table-top jump. On the next lap, Jones got bad by in a tum and held o n for the win and the overa ll. " I love this uad l," said Jones, "There' s lots of tech ical sturr." Dob bs led every lap in Pl us 25 raci ng while Jones tallied 3-2 to net ru nner -up honors o ver Keith Nevers a nd Steve Starnes. In Hera: 125cc B first moto acti on, Myrde Beach Suzuki/Barr's AXO-baded Fortson moved up from fourth to .score th e win . Tilden Styron overcame a last p lace star t to finish second. Mo to two saw Chris Brown steal the win over For tso n and Styron. Brown DNF th e first moto, leaving Fortson to cla im th e top go ld over Styron. Styro n seemed on hi s way to the 250cc B win. but a crash while leading th e second moto set him bad to an even tua l 2-6 score a nd th ird o vera ll. Bryan Rice OvetClme a mediocre second moto start to fin ish with a perfect score. Carlton Padgeu's 6-2 was good for runnerup gold. The o pening 250cc C moto was o ne or th e hardest fought of the da y as Steve Liu swapped th e lead bad and forth with J ohn T ee!. T eel was first at the nag in a close fini sh over Liu.
