out the '91 l25cc CPs before missing ou t on th e titl e by just a handful of points. Un like hi s soo n-to-be 250cc rivals Everts and Parker, he doesn't find Ameri can su percross to be the most beneficial way of getting in shape for the CPs. " Comi ng over here to America is good practice and all, bu t supercross in America and the World Championships are two ent irely different things, " says Moore, who has been racing his new Yamah as on th e CMC Golden Sta te Nat ionals cir cu it during th e winter. " Bu t it might work for Stefan. He rides stadiu ms real well. He has that smooth style and seems to have no fear, whi ch is a big advantage, I'm sure that if he rid es here for a year he will becom e a good supercross rider. But I don't know how much it will help h im for th e outdoor CPs. " Moore, Healey and fellow American 250cc CP .rider Donny Schmit were in the stands watching the An aheim supercross. AMA pro motocross manager Roy .'Janson said those th ree and Italian star Alex Puzar - had better watch oUL "They will see an entirely different Stefan Everts and Trampas Par ker when the. World Championships begin: ' says Janson, who was very instrumental in obtaining permission from th e Belgium Motor Riders Bond (BMB) for Everts to ride here. " It is a tremendous asset to our program to have them here and I think it's going to do them a world of good. We've got the best riders in the world here and they can teach riders like Parker and Everts to be more aggressive and more technical." Four riders planning to compete in th e '92 250cc CPs - Par ker, Everts, Mick y Dym ond and Bader Manneh, all qualified for the main event at Anaheim. So th e question is, does a C P rider who com es to America for preseason training reall y have an advantage over everyone else? The pi oneer of this practice says the answer is a resounding yes. "It gave me a big advantatge (in 1989)because I stayed for three or four months, riding almost every day: ' says Bayle, who went back to Europe that summer and won five of the eight C Ps he entered in the nine-round series. "In Europe we do not practice so much through th e winter be cause the weather is very bad. Here you can ride a lot, almost every da y. And in supercross you race every week. In the CPs you only race every two or three weeks, so it is like holiday compared to this . It makes Europe seem so much easier; riding the World Championships was not so hard." Bayle says he 's pulling-for Everts. " I would like for him to do well. I'm not going to ride anymore after th is 'year, so it does not matter to me. I hope that he does well and that he will one da y come back here and take a champ ionship." Everts says tha t every race in Amer ica is like a lesson for him. At Houston he learned how out of shape he was. In Anaheim he learned about attacking from start to fin ish , all 20 laps. "I must keep going and· going throughou t the race," said Everts, still struggli ng with fat igu e brought on by hi s no t-so-strenuous army days. " I will train very hard and practice very hard. I' m just trying to do each race better and better. I tell myself, 'I am pushing to win the World Championship, not th e supercross.' In my mind, yes, I will win the World Champion ship." And then, like Bayle before, will Everts embark on a full-time blitz of America? "That's still a surprise: ' he says. 0'1 OF A NEW ERA '92 G~~!~ "'eel' February 28 ...
