I kn ow we are never in a posi tio n to kn o w all of the facts in a situa tio n like tha t, bu t it seems Bern ie Eccle sto ne's greed is putting the screws to all of us. T he point of Kenny Roberts' a lmos t nonresponse was well tak en. I was surprised because he is usuall y so voca l on matters of G P racin g, and he is certain ly in a posit ion of in flue nce and/ or po wer. Guy Holt, JrShreveport, LA in you r J anu ary 22 issue. I hav e a lways noti ced numerous cherry pickers at the CMC Go lden Sta te Natio na l events at Mar ysvill e, Sacramen to and Carson Ci ty, Nevada. It 's always a . topi c of disc ussion of who 's chea ting by staying in a lower class, whe ther it be for troph ies or bucks fro m th e ma nu facturers. Offer some do lla rs and wat ch the J un iors come out of the wood work ! In the same issue is a pic tu re of Ricky Graham leading th e Vet Juni or class mo to. Here's a professio na l dirt tracker begging off as a Vet Ju n ior. Get a life, Ri cky! CMC mu st kn ow this goes o n yet does nothin g to correct it. At present , I wo uld n' t be surprised if most top five finishers in most classes have dropped a class for cas h at th e CMC Nationa ls. I still enjoy racing for the fun of it a nd wouldn 't think of stoppi ng even if my class had cherry pic kers at every event. It would on ly be made bett er if CMC would en for ce their own ru les. In the meantime, I hope R icky and all the o the rs enjoy th eir Junior class win n ings. Thanks, AMA As a fan th at was excitedly ant icipating the G P a t Laguna Seca..I find it di shearten ing and ironic that Ca lifornia, a producer of Worl d Cha mpion riders, has been snubbed for 1992. .Everybody sho u ld give a special thanks to the AMA for respo ndi ng so qu ickl y in providing Ca liforn ia 's road racing fans wi th wh at Bernie Ecclesto ne , FIM, IRTA and Dorna wou ld not . . Wayne Issac North Hollywood, CA Enjoy what we have I' m wri ti ng in hopes of o peni ng th e eyes of enthus iasts o ut there wh o th ink road raci ng is over in the U.S. beca use th e powers tha t be have taken away our road race GP. To me this notion is rid iculous. I went to my fir st roa d race in the summer of 1984, the AMA Na tio na l at Mid-Ohio. Wh at I saw amazed me. It was po uring rain th at weekend and racers were slidi ng off th e track at an alarmi ng rat e. A young man , who was new to the roa d raci ng scene, slip ped and slid his way to victor y. Maybe some of yo u have heard of hi m. His name is Bub ba Sho bert . Since then I'v e gon e to every race they've run at Mid-Ohio and never have been let down. I've been treated to ba tt les betwee n Rain ey a nd Schw antz, Polen and Shob er t, Scott Ru ssell and the field (1990), etc. Every year there are new, exciting riders. T he racing is close and the fields are huge! I went to the 1988 U.S. G P and it was wo nder ful to see Edd ie Lawson and Jimmy Fil ice win on their hom e tu rf, but it was also mu ch more detached for the specta tor th an an AMA Nati onal. I love racing and I cert a i n ly believe th e G Ps are th e pi nnacle of the spo rt, however, I a lso lik e to wa nder the pits, see th e bikes, tal k to th e riders and tuners, etc. It makes you feel li ke you 're part of the racing . My poi nt is, alt ho ug h we'll miss the U.S. G P, there is plenty of fantastic racing righ t here at th e local tracks. Let's enjoy wh at we have and suppo rt the best ri ders in th e world, befor e they leave us in hopes of conq uering that world. Bob Jenkins Ypsilanti, MI Cherry pickers I had to laugh at Gr eg Lam b 's lett er John Dirickson Col evill e, CA Go home, Bayle T his is in response to the letter fro m Frank Sai d in your February 12 issue: First of all , Mr. Said says tha t he was em barrass ed ' by th e cro wd 's response to J ean -Mich el Bayle's introduction (at the Ana hei m Supercross ). Wh y sho uld he be embarrassed becau se a rider is no t liked? Seco nd, it was n 't a sma ll perce ntage of the cro wd th at booed Bayle, it was a rather lar ge percen tage from wh ere I was sitting . Mr. Said appears to be either mised uca ted o r totally uneducated when he tal ks about th e events occu rring in America n racing. An yone wh o has ever watc hed Bayle ri de will gi ve h im credit for his natural rid ing abili ty. He came here and wh ipped the best we have in th ree different series, but he did not teach our riders how to go fast. Man for man , we still have th e best motocross riders in th e wor ld. Bayle is the excep tio n rather th an the rule. Bayle di d not bri ng legitimacy to the AMA. He came here to race becau se of the AMA's legitim acy and reputation for producing the best racing there is. I' ve talk ed to a lo t of peo ple and the reason most of them don 't like Bayle is becau se of hi s attitude abo ut win ning the o utdoo r Nati onal Cha mpionsh ips. Most of us ha ve wat ched some. of o ur most ta len ted riders work th eir asses off for years a nd never win a Natio na l. It 's someth ing to be proud of and ent h us iastic about and Bayle is not. It seems like he doesn 't even care and that pi sses most of us off. Bayle sho uld go hom e wh ere he's a nat ional hero and gets the treatment he deserves. T he o n ly reason riders lik e Stefan Everts are here is to tune-up for the World Cha m p io nsh ips. So, if o ne of the Eu ropeans wh o are here "prac ticing " takes out o ne of your favorite American riders, cos ting him a cha nce at the su percross cha m pions h ip , you won 't mind will you, Mr. Said? Don't let a rider's grea t abi lity fool you into believing that he's a great guy. David L. Karrel Fullerton, CA Letters to the editor should be sent to: Voices; Cycle Nea», P.O .
