~ ARENACROSS AM! National Arenacross Series: Round 3 ~ Oklahoma's Cliff Palmer (32) swept the 125 and 250cc Pro main even ts in both nights of racing at the T ulsa Fairgrounds Pavilion. Josh Beckett (66) topped Jacob Martin (139) and Kristy Shealy (45) in the 85cc class. Clean sweep for Palmer in Tulsa By Kat Span n TULSA, OK,JAN. 31·FEB. 2 liff Palmer cleaned house in Tulsa's Fairgrounds Pavilion, as the local rider swept the 125 and 250cc Pro classes bo th Friday and Saturday ni gh ts. Palmer's vic tories, in front of a two-night total of 10,000 spectators, ex ten ded his National Arenacross Seri es win streak to six in a row . Two other riders also swept their classes in the three-day even t. Lynn Nickerson Jr. won the Pee Wee even ts held during breaks in Friday a nd Saturday nights' Pro action, then C 22 returned for Sunday's Amateur day and won again, while J osh Beckett swep t the 85cc class in Friday a nd Saturday's halftime shows. On Friday night, Dennis Hawthorne got the holeshot at the start of the 20lap 125cc Pro main with Palmer in his shadow o n the tight tra ck made up of whoops, roc kers, triple jumps and a sand pit. The two riders battled side by side on the first la p a nd wh en th ey landed from the triple jump, Palmer to uched down first and inched into the lead. Jason La ng ford , wi th G rayson Goodman on his heels, moved in on Haw thorne's rea r fende r and by th e seventh lap bo th La ngford a nd Goo d. ma n ha d passed Hawthorne and were battl in g for seco nd pl ace. At the halfway point, Goodman took over second but was still battling with La ngford. A couple of laps later, Chad Pederson brok e upthe duel when he passed La ngfor d for third. La ngford kept the pressure on Pederson unti l he fell with three laps to go . La ngford quickl y remounted to stay in fourth place ahead of Hawthorne, but lost any chance of overtaking Pederson. American Suzukisuppo rted Palmer rod e ou t front to score the win foll owed by Goodman , Pederson, Langford and Hawthorne. In Saturday 's 125cc Pro main, Hawthorne cap tured th e hol eshot o nce again wi th Palmer a nd Langfo rd behind h im. J ason Ed wards quickly moved up to pressu re Langford a nd pas sed hi m for th ird, while Canadian Ross Pederson soo n joined the battle. Up fro nt, Hawthorne held the lead through la p four wh en Palmer clos ed in a nd passed him as they began the fifth lap. Edwards was the next to challenge Hawthorne and tried to pass him through the whoops , but both riders ended up on th e gr ou nd. That moved Langford to second a nd Ross Peders on to third, and they stayed in that order until th ey crossed the finish line beh ind winner Pa lmer. Saturday night's 250cc main event saw Cliff Palmer get the holeshot with Goodman right behind him. The two rid ers went side by side through a wh oop section ap proach ing the sand pit, but Goodman fell in the sand and dropped to last place. Ross Pederson filled the gap with Chad Pederson , Hawthorne, Edw ards and Langford close behind. Palmer pulled a lead and went unchallenged to the finish while the actio n took place behind him. The Pedersons battled for second until lap 17 when Chad finally found his way to second and stayed there ahead of Ross to the checkered flag. Edwards and Hawthorne continuously battled over fourth, but Edwards was able to hang o n to the position at the finish. Goodman worked his wa y up to seventh a t the fin ish . In the 85cc Open class, run in between the Pro pro gram o n both Friday a nd Saturda y, J osh Beckett got the holeshot and con tro lled the lead to the finish in both races. Charlie Bogard cased the triple jump on Friday night and bruised a kidney, but was ba ck for Saturday'S program. Although he couldn't jump, Boga rd put his skills to use on other parts .of th e track and rode smoothly to second place. In Sunday 's 85cc Open main , Bogard got the holeshot and led until lap five whe n Brad Woolsey passed h im in the whoops. Kawasa ki Team Greenl AXO/ Barr's/PJ lIFMF/Super B Fuel-backed Woolsey then stayed ahead of Bogard to claim the win and take the class points lead with one round remaining in the Centra l Region Series. At the start of the 125cclntermediate main, Chris Daubitz captured the holeshot but Bryan R ister shot wide and the two riders went down. That gave the lead to Eric Edwards, but he fell on lap two upon landing from the triple j u m p . Rister h ad qui ck ly remounted from h is first -turn fall and wa s th ere to take the lead, while Daubitz had worked hi s way from 14th to seven th pl ace. On lap th ree, Will iam Winston passed Ri ster for fir st pl ace but fell exi ting th e sand pi t. Sha wn Wright bri efly held second before a cha rgi ng Daubitz passed h im . W h en the chec kers flew, Pagan-Lewis Hondal AXO / Renthal-backed Rister go t the win, Daubitz was the runner- u p a nd Wright finis hed th ird. Rister also won th e 125cc (12-15) class.
