Pin gree ma naged to close on McCormick, bu t ra n out of ti me. When the checkered flag waved, McCormick was first, foll owed acro ss the line by Pingree, Kady, and E.J . Wright. Pingree redeemed himself in the second moto after performing a startto- fin ish rom p of the cl as s. Er ik Li ndstro m and Dave Evilsizer battl ed for second early in the moto, while Tim Stau fenb eil an d Kady argued over fourth. First moto-wi nner McCormick was nearl y last, and was ru nni ng in 17th po sition on th e opening lap. Staufe nbeil was the first rider to mo ve up, first dropping Kady to fifth , then cutting under Evilsizer for third. Kady followed Sta u fen be il a n d dropped Evilsizer back one more spot to fifth. A lap later, Staufenb eil stu ffed hi s way under Lindstrom for secon d, where he remained for the rest of th e race. While Staufenbeil was slicing hi s wa y throu gh the front-runners , McCormick entered the pictur e an d was sudden ly inside th e top five. On the final lap, McCormick passed both Evilsizer and Kady to finish third place behind Staufenbeil and overall winner Pin gree. Pi ngree had a much easier time in the 250cc In term edia te class by breezing to a pair of rnoto wins . P in gree led each and every lap of bo th motos and was never challenged at an y po int in eith er ra ce. Staufenbeil was the runner-up, followed by Evilsizer an d Patrick Skoog. Ryan Clark made th e journey from New Mexico and ' was reward ed with the overall win in the 80cc 12-13 class. " I am used to much ro ug her tracks, so th is was easy for me, " Clark said after scoring the first moto victory. Clark was untouchable in th e first race and led the 'even t from the drop of the ga te to the checkered £lag. T ravis Preston, J iri Dostal and Doug Parsons were raci ng closely for second, while Shaun Perolio was cha rgi ng up from ou t of the top 10. By the halfway point, it was obvious that Clark was on his way to victory , wh ile Preston was running solidly in second. Perol io moved into fourth after passing Parsons. Perolio spent the remainder of the moto behind Dostal, who fended his third place spot to the finish beh ind Preston and winner Clark. Clark bolted out of the gate to grab the second moto holeshot, followed by Preston, Perolio and Dostal. Per oli o was flying, and quickly displaced PrestonIorsecond, and set after Clark, who enjoyed a comfortable lead. Perolio spent two laps reeling in Clark, then dogged him during the remaining three laps. Perolio's persisten ce paid off on the final lap when he passed Clark through a technical section of the race course to assume the lead. Reginald Mitchell (22) and Terrance Malan finished 1-2 in 80cc (7~ 11) action. Mark Blakley (7) ' passed Mike Carr (3) and Mike Short (66) to take the lead in the 25-29 Nov ice Division Two class, then stayed out front to record the win. Damon Huffman, whose crank seized while he was running third in the previous night's 125cc Region al main, won the 125 and 250cc Pro classes on Amateur day. Perolio scored th e second moto victory, but was relega ted to second overall because of his fourth place first moto finish. Regin al d Mitchell used consis tent finishes to score the 80cc 7-11 year-old class victo ry. Jerry Aleman led muc h of the first rnoto, and at on e point enjoyed a near ly 20-second lead over the rest of th e riders. Tragedy struck, h o wever, as Alema n ' s ma chi n e encountered mechanical problems and eventua lly dropped him to fifth . Scott Conley picked up the gauntlet, and charged for th e moto win in front of T errance Malan and Mitchell. Alema n raced with a vengence in the second mo to and scored an im p ressive wire-to-wire victory . Mitch ell rode a £lawless race to second in front of Terra nce Malan, who battled with first moto winner Con ley for most of the race.
