McElro y easil y won . wh ile Kurt McMillen won the second . q ualifier over Co leman. Ferry won the La st Chance Qual ifier. When the pack ro unded the first tum, Ferry again ha d the lea d wit h McEl ro y, Mik e Treadwell , Car l Vaillancou rt , and Kitsch in tow. Ferry a nd McElro y quickl y pulled away from the field. while Col eman slipped by Vaillancourt and Kitsch for fourth. DeVol al so scored an other nea r-perfect overall win in the Up T he H ill class with 1-2 mo to fin ishes. Moto one in the Vet Expert class saw Alan Evan s rip ou t of the gat e. On lap one, DeVol sto le the lead. Brent Battin was next (Q ~et by Evans . DeVol crossed the fini sh lin e WIth a 10 second lead . Don Hucke dogged Evans the en tire moto, but (Q no avail. M O lO two' s start was all DeVol's, with Battin a close secon d. H ucke and Evans waged war a few seconds behind the baule up front. On lap four. Bat tin was close eno ugh to put a pa ss on DeVol. " I could see hi s sha dow on every com er. and I thought he was goi ng to ram me." said DeVol. H ucke mad e a bri ef pass tha t only lasted a few feet. DeVol wicked up the throttle, and ne w past H ucke over the double. Evans got by Hucke on lap five, but H ucke retaliated before the rhythm sectio n and held on for third pl ace.
