and delivered in a refined manner th at is both deceptive and rather unworldy. Riding th e bik e - esp ecially on a race track, which as H onda has bee n at pains to point o ut, is not its na tural habitat - has a rather anaesthetized feel: you feel slightly detached from rea lity , with everything working to perfection but n o real sense of how it 's all done. Bit like riding a n ultrapowerful electr ic m otor with a linear p ower delive r y a nd to ta l l ack o f vibra tio n. Very im p ressive, but frankly not very exci ti ng. And I was so hoping, a nd expecting, it would be o the rw ise. Maybe the bike is sim ply too good for a cla pped -out hack like you rs truly to be abl e to levy serious cri ticism. Maybe we 've become so conditioned to steps in th e powerba nd and bik es that mi sbehave or a t least make bl oody sure you rea lize what a hard time th ey're having going this fast from A to B, that a ma chine so well- mannered as the NR750 has a hard time registering its presen ce. O r maybe, just maybe, perfecti on is o f itself im perfect; maybe a motorcycle needs those little rough edges a nd idiosyncracies to gi ve i t charac ter , and th us appeal. The NR750 is a brilliant piece o f engi neering, no doubt; it represents the apogee o f contemporary four-strok e en gine design; it may even be good value for money, given the unique nature of i ts technol o gy a n d th e trillions of yen poured in to it s p redecessors ' development. Its m ultipoin t electro n ic fuel injectio n rep resen ts a long-overdue ado p tio n o r EFIIems o n J apanese performance m otorcycl es, that will surely be swiftly em u la ted by o the r models. But th e NR750 does no t thrill. It only impresses by the q uality o f it s engineering, i ts execu tion and its styling. It does not exci te. And th a t' s a sham e. . 01 Specifications TkJH11mu/ {JaMYAMAHA AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR 41i1l111 ~ )UN IN MOTION BUILT FOR CHAMPIONS 1992 KTM 300 EXC & 550 DXC /N STOCK - COME & SEE SERVICE - - - - Ca// Now - - - - Pa rts In Stock On 1992 Models 1991 KTM's ON SALE/ 250 DXC $2999 250 MX $2999 540DXC $3199 600 DXC $4199 (805) 497-3765 2388 E.
