Yamah a rider slowly began to pull away. H oyt and Humphrey soon found themselves in a tigh t battle.over second. Their battle took them away from the rest of "the pack with a ga p of about eigh t seconds. WeIch, the winner of th e second divis ion's first moto, gated poorly and a series of bad breaks kept him ou t of the h unt for a good finishing pos ition. Rea th also ' had bad lu ck in moto two, tan gling with a coup le of riders in turn two and a lso fini sh in g toward the rear of th e pack. In the meant im e, Mauga kept th e pace and pulled away from everyone, easily taking the overa ll viciory and the first -pla ce p a yo ff fro m Yamaha. T he battle over second wasn't decided until the last lap . It looked as if Humphrey might be abl e to gel by H oyt for a wh ile, but Hoyt was able to ho ld on to h is positi on long eno ugh to take the ch eckered flag for second p lace in th e mo to a n d secon d Cl'I overall.
