worried about Stanton ," said
LaRocco, while his father and tuner
Mike LaRocco Sr. tended to his bike.
" But after a co uple of laps I settled
down and got comfortable again and
things started going better for me.
" H e (Stanto n) was riding a little
better than me," added LaRocco. " Bu t
1 did what I had to do to keep him
behind me. When you' re in the lead,
you don 't want to lose it."
"I just kept picking away," said
Stanton. "I tried to regroup for the last
lap; I just went too fast and made a
mistake. I should 've stayed where I was
for the points. "
Ward said, " I just kept riding and
riding. I was right there, I just wish
that 1 hadn't gotten pinched off in the
first tum. Who kn ows what would've
happened."
Finishing a distant fourth after a
brilliant comeback was Bradshaw.
"I feel good and it 's a long season,"
said Bradshaw. " T his is just one race
and 1 know I'll be back. I'm much
better prepared this year than 1 was
last year. "
After sp ending most of th e race
battling back and fourth with Bayle,
Dubach ended up ro unding ou t the top
five. Bayle was a close sixth, wh ile
Larry Ward , Emig, Kiedro wski and
Lamson fill ed o ut the top 10. Matiasevic h ended up dropping back to
11th.

125cc
The Eastern Regio nal 125cc feature
ended up being a showdown between
the two heat race winners, Ezra Lusk
and J ero my Buehl , but it was th e
defending ch amp Brian Swi n k wh o
emerged o n top.
Downers Grove Yamah a 's Doug
H enry grabbed the hol eshot at the start
of the 12-lap main event, but less than
two turn s later, it was Buehl leadi ng
the way. In third was Lusk, follo wed
by Swink.
Durin g th e third lap, Hen ry went
down in the sand pit sectio n of the
tra ck, allowing Lu sk and Swink into
third and second. Henry quickly got
back going but was never again a factor
among the lead ers. Henry ended up
finishing fifth .
Up front, Buehl led th e way, but
Lusk, riding in his first-ever professional race after havin g moved up from
the Pro-Am ra nks , was charging hard.
His aggressive riding style quickly
made him the crowd favorite, as he
challenged Buehl in every turn.
Riding a bit on the wild side, Lusk
was using different lines, trying every
trick in the book to get around Buehl.
By the halfway point, Lusk, who was
still trying to get around the Honda
rider, began feeling pressure from
behind, as Swink began making a
charge.
Just after the halfway point, Lusk
saw a chance to get aro und Buehl and
took it. The 16-year-old dove to th e
inside of Buehl and pushed the Honda
rider to the outside and forced him off
the track. Buehl and hi s bike went
flying and almost into the stands.
"It was getting late and I had to do
something, " said Lusk, who hails from
Georgia. " He took a slower line and
I went for it. He crashed, but that's
racing, it happens sometimes."
Buehl quickly remounted his Honda
and picked back up in fifth .
Meanwhile, up front, Swink began
dogging the new leader and two laps
la ter, cleanl y passed h is teammat e
Lusk, for th e number one ' po sition.
Although Lu sk stayed close, Swink
held on for th e last three laps for th e ·
Wtn . Lu sk was second foll owed by
DGY 's Jimmy Butto n , Buehl and
Henry.
" Lusk and Buehl were making a lot
of mistakes, running into each other
a lot ," said winner Swink. "I just hung
behind them. Then it started getting
late and I began putting pr essure on
Lusk, who then put more pressure on
Buehl. Ezra knocked Buehl down and
then bobbled and I got by him. It was
a good race."
''I'm happy to get second," said
Lusk, " but 1 was in the number-one
spot. 1 don 't like to drop back. So, 1
guess I'm a little depressed."
